Reparenting in Public: Alana Springsteen's Second Record and First Real Headline Run

Alana Springsteen moved to Nashville at ten and had a publishing deal at fourteen; at twenty-five she has released a self-produced album about dismantling the way she was raised, and is playing it across 25 American clubs this autumn.

Virginia Beach, then a publishing deal at fourteen

Springsteen grew up in Virginia Beach, the oldest of four children, with pastors on both sides of the family. She started on guitar at seven and wrote a first song, Fairy Tale, at nine. When she was ten the family moved to Nashville expressly to chase the music; early work included singing at minor league baseball games, and by fourteen she had a publishing deal. Despite the surname, there is no relation to Bruce Springsteen.

Speaking to Coastal Virginia Magazine this autumn, she described a sheltered and emotionally unaware household in which she learned early how to put other people's needs before her own, and said she had felt like a bit of a black sheep in it. That sentence does more work than any press release in explaining the record she has just made.

Breaking up in instalments

The debut EP Slow Down arrived in 2019. History of Breaking Up (Part One) followed on 17 September 2021, trailed by Trying Not To, California, Zero Trucks and Me Myself and Why; Part Two came on 15 July 2022 with New Number, Trust Issues and you don't deserve a country song.

Her debut album was built in public. Columbia released it as three EPs across 2023 — messing it up on 24 March, then figuring it out and getting it right — before collecting all eighteen tracks as Twenty Something on 18 August 2023. She co-wrote every song, with Nashville writers including Liz Rose. Chris Stapleton sang on ghost in my guitar; goodbye looks good on you, a duet with Mitchell Tenpenny, was certified Gold by the RIAA.

The reception was warm without being uncritical. Holler scored messing it up 6/10, credited her with rich lyrical detail and a striking vocal attack, picked if you love me now as the standout for its heartland-rock momentum, and asked openly whether a third consecutive release about a break-up was the best use of a writer that sharp.

The years between the albums

Twenty Something was followed by a stretch of other people's stages. In July 2024 she sang on Hot Honey with Tiësto, which went to number one on Billboard's Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart — an unusual line on a country CV. The same year she opened Luke Bryan's Mind of a Country Boy tour and was named to People's 2024 Ones to Watch list. Her Tiny Desk set, recorded on 5 August 2024, was released as an EP that December; NPR's writeup credited her with a deep understanding of human nature and with sidestepping the genre's stock tropes.

October 2024 was less kind: a tour bus fire destroyed equipment and personal belongings and forced the cancellation of Texas dates. Through 2025 she worked as a support act on Keith Urban's High and Alive World Tour, which gave her a year of arena rooms before she tried to fill her own.

I Hope This Helps

The second album was announced on 13 March 2026, the same day she released black sheep, following the earlier single note to self. I Hope This Helps came out on 29 May 2026 through Santa Anna Nashville: sixteen tracks, roughly forty-eight minutes, intro, interlude and outro included. She co-wrote and co-produced all sixteen and played guitar and piano across the record. There are no guest vocalists at all, a deliberate choice she explained as wanting nothing to dilute the narrative. Collaborators behind the desk included Mark Trussell, Ido Zmishlany, Zach Crowell, Chris LaCorte and Will Weatherly.

The stated subject is undoing a lifetime of self-abandoning patterns and the residue of a fear-based faith. On black sheep she said that had she written it two years earlier it would have been an insecure, timid plea to be understood, and that the version released instead carries the confidence healing brought her. In the Coastal Virginia interview she put the mechanism plainly: therapy, and reparenting herself.

Music Republic Magazine gave it four stars out of five, calling it her most devastatingly honest work and singling out black sheep and how to swim, with the fingerpicked acoustic textures and breathy delivery owing something to the Fearless era of Taylor Swift, an acknowledged influence.

Where she stands now

Britain and Ireland got the record before the American tour did. After a C2C appearance in London on 14 March 2026, she ran a short headline tour of Europe from 3 July in Riaza, Spain, taking in London's Islington Assembly Hall on 7 July, Limelight 2 in Belfast on 8 July, Manchester and Glasgow, and closing with two nights at Norsk Countrytreff in Norway on 10 and 11 July. She also played CMA Fest in Nashville in June.

The widest audience of her year had nothing to do with a ticket. On 13 August 2026 she sang the American national anthem a cappella at the MLB game staged at the Field of Dreams site in Dyersville, Iowa, streamed on Netflix.

What she does not yet have is industry hardware; the album arrived too recently, and the cycle so far has been measured in rooms played rather than trophies.

The show this autumn

The I Hope This Helps Tour is 25 dates, opening on 17 September in Roseville, California and ending on 24 October at Exit/In in Nashville. The routing is deliberately small — the Troubadour in West Hollywood on 20 September, the Bowery Ballroom in New York on 16 October, The Foundry in Philadelphia, Brighton Music Hall in Boston, a bar-sized room in Iowa City on 29 September, and a 20 October stop at The NorVa, back in the Hampton Roads area she grew up in. Presales opened on 5 May and general sale on 8 May. Erin Kinsey opens the first leg from 17 September; Kyle Schuesler takes over from 8 October.

Documented setlists from 2026 average thirteen songs, with longer nights running past fifteen. A taped intro leads into ghost in my guitar, then no man's and thinkin' straight; chameleon, you don't deserve a country song and sad hour sit in the first half. how to swim has become the set's loose centre, opened out into a singalong medley that has included Don't Stop Believin', Here Comes the Sun, I Gotta Feeling and Go Your Own Way. amen and same God handle the album's religious material, i loved you then, love to see it, cowboys and tequila, look I like and diy fill out the back half, and a cover of Carrie Underwood's Before He Cheats appears regularly. Where there is an encore it has been goodbye looks good on you and black sheep.

The show, now

The current show is a club show by design: 25 US dates between 17 September and 24 October 2026, in rooms the size of the Troubadour, the Bowery Ballroom and Exit/In, where the run ends. Erin Kinsey opens the dates up to early October and Kyle Schuesler the rest. Documented 2026 setlists average thirteen songs, with the fuller nights running longer: a taped intro, then ghost in my guitar, no man's and thinkin' straight to open, chameleon, you don't deserve a country song and sad hour through the middle, and how to swim turned into the set's communal moment with snippets of Don't Stop Believin', Here Comes the Sun, I Gotta Feeling and Go Your Own Way folded in. The new album's heavier material — amen, same God, black sheep — is played straight rather than staged, which suits a production built around the band and Springsteen's own guitar and piano rather than screens. A cover of Before He Cheats recurs, and where there is an encore it has been goodbye looks good on you followed by black sheep. Reviewers of the record have pointed to her existing live reputation in Britain, built at C2C in London in March 2026 and on the summer's European headline run, as the reason the album found an audience there before the American tour began.
