The Dublin basement bingo night that now runs forty rooms at once

Bingo Loco is not a band but a touring format — bingo rounds spliced with a DJ, a comedian host and a ten-minute rave — built by three Irish friends in 2017 and now, by its own accounting in July 2026, a $24 million operation running about 2,000 shows a year across 300 cities.

A rainy Thursday, a basement, and a hundred friends

The idea did not come out of the Dublin nightclub scene. Craig Reynolds, Will Meara and Stephen Lawless landed on it while travelling in the Middle East, where an ordinary bingo hall suggested something that could be pushed much harder. They brought it home and, in 2017, talked roughly a hundred friends into a Dublin basement on a wet Thursday night. The first show was a hard sell. The second sold out in half an hour.

That gap between the two nights is the whole story of the company in miniature. What they had built was not a one-off party but a repeatable structure — bingo's rules doing the work of a setlist, with music, comedy and prizes hung off the scaffold. Once the structure existed, it could be copied into any room with a stage, a bar and long tables.

Filing Bingo Loco under pop takes some explaining, since there is no act and no record. The justification is the soundtrack: the games are run against throwback anthems from the 1990s and early 2000s, and in some formats the cards are marked off against song titles rather than numbers. The pop canon is the raw material.

The format is the product

A night is built from three bingo games, played to the usual progression of one line, two lines and a full house, with the gaps between them filled by everything a normal bingo hall leaves out. A comedian host works the room, a DJ runs the music, and audience members are pulled up for lip-sync battles, air-guitar contests and dance-offs. Where two players call at the same time, the tie is settled by press-ups or a dance-off rather than a check of the card.

The signature interval is the rave round: ten minutes or so of club tracks, strobes and CO2 cannons dropped into the middle of a bingo session. Prizes run deliberately across the whole range of plausibility, from foreign holidays and trips to Las Vegas down to household appliances, lawnmowers and soft toys. Reynolds has described the prize table as reaching, at the low end, "just ridiculous things".

The staging is unfussy by design. Seating is at long communal tables and unreserved, first-come-first-served; doors open an hour before the show; a UK ticket has typically run around £20, with bingo materials included. Nothing in that setup requires a bespoke venue, which is precisely the point.

From a touring act to forty rooms at once

By July 2025 the company was reporting an operating profit of nearly £800,000 for 2024 and projecting revenue above £15.5 million for 2025, off roughly 1,500 shows a year in 220 cities. Meara summarised the shift away from conventional touring bluntly that month: "We are at the stage now where we do 40 or more events at the weekend at the same time."

A year on, the numbers had moved again. In July 2026 the founders' parent company, Locomotive, put annual ticket sales at $24 million with around $8 million in profit, more than a million tickets sold a year, about 2,000 shows, and a footprint of 15 countries and 300 cities. The business has taken no outside investment.

Growth has come from treating new formats as experiments rather than launches. The company tests a fresh concept roughly every fortnight; on its own reckoning about one in five works at all and one in twenty becomes a genuine earner. Announced offshoots include Tipsy Rodeo, a Nashville-themed night, and a chartered cruise built as a 72-hour version of the show.

The American move

Bingo Loco started running shows in the United States in 2024 and, by May 2026, was operating in close to 200 North American cities. Reynolds moved to Denver in 2025, and the following year the company headquartered its North American operation there.

The routing is unusual for a touring product. Rather than chasing the large coastal markets alone, the company blankets secondary and tertiary ones — eight or nine separate suburban venues around Dallas-Fort Worth, several across greater Los Angeles, and dates in places as far from the circuit as North Dakota and rural Virginia. A market like Seattle is worked monthly rather than annually: two shows at The Crocodile in Belltown on 5 June 2026, and a date at Snoqualmie Casino and Hotel on 30 May.

US shows run 21-plus, which shapes the room. Reynolds's framing of the audience is that it spans ages 21 to 80, with multi-generational groups a normal sight rather than a novelty — a claim broadly consistent with the casino bookings sitting alongside the nightclub ones.

Talks reported in 2025 covered US arenas in the 10,000 to 25,000 capacity range, which would be a different proposition from a 500-capacity club with communal tables. Nothing at that scale has been confirmed.

What the reviews actually say

Reporting from an Edmonton show at the Midway Music Venue on 2 December 2025 gives a reasonably unsentimental picture. The night ran three hours at C$57.50 a head. The cards were marked against song titles as clips played, mostly radio hits from the 1980s to the 2000s; winners either took a prize outright or were made to earn it against other winners in dance-offs, karaoke or a beer-chugging contest. The grand prize was a trip to Las Vegas. The room ran under blacklight, the host was well judged, and the crowd skewed heavily towards hen and birthday groups.

The same account was unimpressed by the middle of the prize table — a cardboard cutout and a karaoke microphone among them — and by the cost of the evening once drinks and food were added, at C$32 for two cocktails and a mocktail and C$24 for three slices of pizza. The verdict was that the night delivers for people who want that specific kind of party and is not worth repeating for anyone who does not.

That split runs through most feedback. Complaints cluster on two things: prizes thinner than the marketing implies, and a running time some find longer than the material supports. Praise clusters on the hosts, who carry the format when the games themselves are, structurally, still bingo.

Where it stands now

The near-term plan is geographic. The company set a target of 40 European locations by the end of 2026, and by July 2026 had begun running shows in mainland Europe with Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish dates added to a UK operation already spanning more than 300 shows a year from Carlisle to Southend-on-Sea. Dublin, where it started, has held recurring Friday and Saturday nights at the Twenty Two nightclub.

The obvious risk is dilution: a format that depends on a host's charisma and a room's willingness to get up and dance does not scale as cleanly as the spreadsheet suggests, and the weakest reviews are the ones that describe a night going through the motions. The founders' answer so far has been volume and variation — more cities, more concepts tested, and a prize table calibrated so that most people leave with a story rather than a car.

The show, now

A current Bingo Loco runs between two and a half and three hours with no support act — the comedian host and the DJ are the bill. Seating is at long communal tables, unreserved, with doors an hour before the start. The night is structured as three bingo games on the standard one line, two lines, full house progression, separated by audience segments: lip-sync battles, air guitar, dance-offs, and tie-breaks settled by press-ups rather than a card check. The set piece is the rave round, ten to fifteen minutes of club tracks under strobes and CO2 cannons dropped between games. Prizes are deliberately uneven, from Las Vegas trips and foreign holidays down to lawnmowers, soft toys and, at a December 2025 Edmonton show, a cardboard cutout. US dates are 21-plus; UK tickets have run around £20, Canadian ones around C$57.50. Reviewers consistently rate the hosts and the crowd energy, and just as consistently complain that the prize table is thinner than advertised and the running time longer than the material needs.
