c8o: golden-era trap drums, wave atmospheres and a first European support run

A Washington, DC producer who has spent 2026 releasing singles at pace, now opening for Skeler in Paris and Cologne on the strength of a catalogue that pairs 2016 trap percussion with wave's reverb and melancholy.

Washington, DC, and a blog that was paying attention

c8o produces out of Washington, DC, and his route to a wider audience ran through the bass and wave blog FUXWITHIT, which published a guest mix and interview with him on 15 October 2025. By then, it said, he had been on its radar for more than a year and had become a regular feature in its weekly playlists. The description it reached for was specific rather than generic: a producer mixing elements of golden-era trap with modern wave for a signature it called emotive yet banging.

That pairing explains most of the catalogue. The trap half supplies the weight and the swing; the wave half supplies the reverb-soaked top end and the sadness. Neither is unusual on its own in 2026 — wave has been an established scene for the better part of a decade, with its own labels, blogs and touring circuit. Holding both halves in one track without the drums turning polite is the harder problem, and it is the thing c8o talks about first when asked how he works.

Drums first, then the glitch

His stated method starts at the bottom. Drums are "the spine of all my tracks", built before anything else, then deliberately set against what he describes as a large, bright atmosphere so that the percussion reads as harder by contrast rather than by sheer level. The third move is texture: a wonky distortion or glitch effect applied to samples and synths, so nothing in the mix sits entirely clean.

He is dismissive of the idea that emotional weight is a production decision. "All emotions are founded on a lifetime of experiences," he said in the same interview, pointing instead at the sources a producer draws from — a childhood song, a video game — rather than at a chord voicing or a particular reverb tail. It is a reasonable account of why his tracks tend to land as nostalgic without leaning on the obvious nostalgic signifiers.

Sobriety, and the mix that came out of it

The same interview covered his recovery, which he discussed without hedging. "Things just keep getting better, colors seem a bit brighter, I notice when people smile," he said, and connected sobriety directly to the work — more authentic, more accountable.

That matters here because the mix he built for the feature was explicitly autobiographical. It ran to roughly thirty tracks, largely his own originals, with collaborators including HAIKU and Defussion, and a substantial number of them unreleased at the time. His own framing for it was a set that showed who he is and where he came from in a vulnerable, authentic and fun way. For a producer with no album and no festival billing, a mix of that length and composition functions as the closest thing he has to a record.

The records

Through to late 2025 the catalogue was built on singles. 'TRIPLE7s', '!inmymind' and 'x111' with Sillage were the three picked out as the standouts of that run, released across a scatter of small labels rather than a single home.

The step up came on 30 October 2025, when he made his debut on NoCopyrightSounds with 'teamo'. NCS is an unusual place to land: it licenses its catalogue free to video creators, trading conventional royalties for reach into an audience most underground producers never touch. The following day he appeared in the blog's Friday round-up of new music. A collaboration with soooshimi was announced for the month after.

2026 has been the busiest year by some distance, with a steady sequence of singles and EPs including 'GNARLY BASTARD', 'luv.scars', '2soon' and 'back2thestars', alongside 'All My Life' and 'Iam.alone', the latter appearing on a 2026 release titled Neo Subculture IV. The most recent is 'i dont need', a single dated 6 September 2026. 'iam.silent', from 2025, remains among his most-played tracks.

Standing in October 2026

Nothing about the trajectory is sudden. c8o is not a festival name, there is no major-label deal on record, and the discography is still singles rather than albums. What there is instead is persistence in the right places: by 13 February 2026 he was still being named in FUXWITHIT's weekly new-music posts, four months after the guest mix. In a scene that churns through new producers monthly, continuing to be programmed that long afterwards is a fair proxy for being taken seriously by the people doing the programming.

The clearer marker arrived with this autumn's touring. c8o is booked as support on Skeler's Nightfall dates — Skeler being one of the few producers to have built a genuine headline circuit out of wave, with more than 915,000 monthly Spotify listeners and a billing that describes his sound as cloud rap, downtempo, melodic trap and trance pushed into bass-led territory. Opening those rooms puts c8o in front of precisely the audience his records are aimed at, at a scale he could not yet draw on his own name.

The 2016 argument

Asked what made 2016 — the period his drums borrow from — worth returning to, his answer was about conditions rather than specific records: it was raw, accessible and free of rigid rules. He contrasts that with a present he calls commercialised, and his prescription is blunt. The future, he argued, depends on artists who reach beyond the EDM bubble.

Set alongside the rest, that reads less like nostalgia than a working brief: take the looseness of that era, skip its actual sonics, and aim the result at people who are not already in the room. The decision to put a track out through a creator-licensing label, where it reaches listeners who will never know the genre's name, makes more sense in that light than it does as a career move.

The support slot

Two dates are confirmed with c8o on the bill. On 9 October 2026 he plays Badaboum in Paris, 2 bis Rue des Taillandiers in the 11th arrondissement, with Skeler headlining and Juche also on the line-up; doors at 19:30, tickets €25 through Shotgun and DICE. On 30 October 2026 he opens at Club Bahnhof Ehrenfeld in Cologne alongside LOSTMANE, doors 19:00, €25 in presale. Both are club shows rather than halls.

No published review of a c8o set exists yet, and set times have not been announced for either date — which is the honest position for a producer whose live profile is weeks rather than years old. What can be stated is the shape of the booking: an opening DJ slot on a three-act wave bill, in front of a crowd that came for the headliner.

The show, now

c8o's live work right now is an opening DJ slot, not a headline show. He appears in support on Skeler's autumn 2026 European dates: Badaboum in Paris on 9 October 2026, on a bill with Skeler and Juche, doors 19:30 and tickets €25 via Shotgun and DICE; and Club Bahnhof Ehrenfeld in Cologne on 30 October 2026 with LOSTMANE, doors 19:00 and €25 in presale. Both are club-scale rooms rather than halls, and both are programmed around Skeler's wave sound — cloud rap, downtempo, melodic trap and trance pushed into bass-led territory — which is the same register c8o's own productions work in. The material available to him is several years of singles plus a large stock of unfinished and unreleased tracks: the roughly thirty-track mix he recorded in October 2025 was mostly his own productions, with HAIKU and Defussion among the collaborators, so an opening set is likely to lean on his own catalogue rather than other people's records. Set lengths, running order and staging have not been published for either date, and no review of a c8o set has appeared, so nothing beyond the confirmed bills is verified.
