Fifteen years in the wings: Cem Eroğlu's slow walk to the microphone

Cem Eroğlu spent roughly fifteen years moving other people's theatre productions around Turkey before he started performing his own hour. Three dates of his touring stand-up show Bişi Dicem are on sale for November 2026, in Bodrum, İzmir and Istanbul.

Fifteen years in the wings

Cem Eroğlu came to stand-up through the back door, and the journey took a long time. Before he held a microphone he spent roughly fifteen years inside Aysa Tiyatro, working on the organisation of leading Turkish theatre productions — the logistics end of the business rather than the applause end. Running alongside that were stretches of television work, both in front of the camera and behind it, and later self-produced comedy content on a YouTube channel under his own name. His billing has never hidden that history: the man on stage is sold as someone who learned the trade in the kitchen of the business before walking out into the dining room.

The material follows the biography closely. Promotional copy for his longest-running hour describes a set that jumps from an organiser's memories to spells of unemployment, and from a mid-life crisis to a rural childhood — the shape of a career that did not travel in a straight line. The pitch for the same show at Moda Sahnesi in Istanbul aims lower and more precisely: it is a show about people who cannot manage a decent first impression, who struggle to say what they mean, and who are not quite sure what to do with themselves.

Attached to that is a working principle that reads almost as a refusal of ambition — come in, watch, laugh, leave. There is no argument to follow and nothing to decode, and the stated aim is the effect of a glass of cold water rather than a thesis about modern Turkey. It is an unusually modest promise for a comedian who waited that long for a stage of his own.

R.C.E. Giremedim, the first hour with his name on it

The first show that carried his name widely was R.C.E. Giremedim — roughly, "I couldn't get in" — built around a man permanently stuck at the entrance to things and never quite admitted. It premiered in the preceding season, played that season out, and was brought back for two Istanbul dates in the autumn of 2019: Friday 25 October 2019 at 20:30 in Hall B of Caddebostan Kültür Merkezi, then Sunday 3 November 2019 at 18:00 at BKM Mutfak Çarşı as part of the Istanbul Comedy Festival.

The endorsements gathered for that run came from stage actors rather than comics. Genco Erkal, Selçuk Yöntem, Füsun Demirel, Günay Karacaoğlu and Seda Öğretir all supplied praise for the show. For a comedian on a first full hour that is a telling set of referees, and it reflects where he had spent the previous decade and a half: moving their colleagues' productions around the country rather than working comedy clubs.

Bişi Dicem: the hour that keeps touring

Since 2023 the show on the road has been Bişi Dicem, a title that folds his own name into the Turkish for "I'm going to say something". Early outings included 7 April 2023 at 20:30 at Caddebostan Kültür Merkezi and 19 April 2023 on the Black Box stage at Fişekhane in Istanbul. It returned to Caddebostan's A Salonu on 11 January 2025 at 20:30, produced by Aysa Prodüksiyon Tiyatrosu and billed as +15, with a description that amounts to everything that happened to him across years spent in front of and behind a camera, recounted with elaborate apologies for taking up the time.

Ticket platforms currently file the show as stand-up with 12+ guidance, while the Kadıköy council's own listing for the January 2025 date carried +15 — the rating appears to travel with the venue rather than with the script. The show's own copy says it has been played since 2023 in rooms from Germany to Mersin, which fits the pattern visible in the listings: spread wide across the map rather than parked in one Istanbul residency.

Notably, he has not gone independent. Aysa remains the producer and promoter behind the current dates, so the comedian is still working inside the company that trained him, now on the other side of the curtain.

Format shows: a comic acting as referee

On 22 October 2025 a new hour was announced, Satışa Geldik — a play on coming up for sale. It runs 60 minutes, carries 14+ guidance, and is pitched as the black box recordings of relationships brought on stage. Audience members are invited to say the thing they have sat on for years, to a partner, an ex, a sibling, a relative or a parent, while Eroğlu arbitrates without taking a side and uses comedy to shrink a large grievance to something a room can laugh at. His framing of it is that these arguments have no losers, and that the winner is whoever speaks up or laughs hardest.

The same engine has been pointed at a single profession in Doktor, Bişidi Cem. Doctors, trainees, nurses, pharmacists and care staff tell their own stories from the floor and he answers back; it also runs 60 minutes, with 12+ guidance, and is openly framed as morale work for a battered sector rather than satire about it.

What both share is a structural bet: the audience is a co-author, not a crowd. It means the hour cannot be identical twice and a good deal of it cannot be written in advance — a harder way to work than a fixed set, and a long way from the "come in, watch, laugh, leave" simplicity of the earlier show.

Where things stand, October 2026

Three dates are on sale, all of them the Bişi Dicem hour, all at 20:30, all under Aysa Organizasyon. Friday 6 November 2026 at Metreküp Bodrum in Muğla, from ₺672; Saturday 7 November 2026 at Penguen Kültür Sanat Bistro & Comedy Club in İzmir, from ₺616 on Biletinial and ₺610.50 on Biletix; and Friday 20 November 2026 at Caddebostan Kültür Merkezi A Salonu in Istanbul, from ₺784. Checked in mid-October 2026, the Bodrum listing showed 58 tickets remaining and the İzmir and Istanbul listings 25 apiece.

Satışa Geldik, the newer format show, is marked as concluded on at least one ticketing platform, so the hour touring in November is the older and better-travelled one; the relationships show reads as between runs rather than retired. There is no aggregated verdict to quote: the platform page for the current run carries a dash where a star rating would be and no audience comments at all.

That leaves his standing to be read structurally rather than critically. The evidence is a run of named hours stretching back to 2019, repeat bookings into Caddebostan's main hall across three different shows, a production company still behind him, and two of the three November rooms within 25 seats of full several weeks out.

In the room

The rooms are small to mid-sized and mostly on the coast. Penguen in İzmir is a bistro and comedy club, Metreküp Bodrum sits in similar territory, and Caddebostan Kültür Merkezi's A Salonu is the largest of the three, a council-run main hall on the Anatolian side of Istanbul. The İzmir date opens its doors at 20:00 for a 20:30 start with unnumbered seating, so arrival time decides the sightline, and the same listing warns that audio and video will be recorded and the footage may be used.

Staging is one performer and a microphone. None of the three dates lists a support act or a second name on the bill, and the documented run time for his format shows is 60 minutes straight through. The age guidance — 12+ on Bişi Dicem, 14+ on Satışa Geldik — is the only content signal the listings offer.

The show, now

The hour on sale for November 2026 is Bişi Dicem, a solo set documented at 60 minutes with no interval and no support act listed on any of the three dates. Staging is a microphone and a single performer; the material moves between his years working in and around television and theatre production, stretches of unemployment, a mid-life crisis and a rural childhood, with heavy audience interaction — the same device his other shows are built on, where spectators supply the stories and he answers back. All three dates start at 20:30: Metreküp Bodrum on 6 November from ₺672, Penguen Kültür Sanat Bistro & Comedy Club in İzmir on 7 November from ₺616, and Caddebostan Kültür Merkezi A Salonu in Istanbul on 20 November from ₺784. The İzmir room opens at 20:00 with unnumbered seating and warns that the show will be filmed and recorded. Age guidance is 12+. No audience rating or written reviews have been posted on the ticketing page for this run, and two of the three dates showed 25 tickets left when checked in mid-October 2026.
