St Charles, a Walgreens skit and #BimboTok

Christine Nicole Chlapecka was born on 11 April 2000 in St Charles, Illinois, grew up performing musical theatre and then declined to chase it professionally. She dropped out of college, worked a run of jobs including a spell as a Starbucks barista, and turned to the TikTok account she had opened in 2019 once the pandemic closed everything else down. The video that moved the numbers was a reenactment of an awkward encounter in a Walgreens, which passed 500,000 likes.

The persona that followed — platinum or pink hair, heavy makeup, pink latex, platform boots, a breathy falsetto — arrived in the same period she left an abusive relationship that ended in 2020. She became one of the central figures of #BimboTok, the subculture she helped start alongside Griffin Maxwell Brooks, which took the bimbo stereotype and ran it through queer, feminist and left-wing politics. Her own definition is plain enough: liberating yourself, your body and your aesthetic to be what you want them to be without the judgment of others. The joke and the argument run together, so a video can hold both a refusal to know what a mortgage is and an argument for decriminalising marijuana.

She was rejected by her family for being queer and found her footing instead in Chicago's LGBTQ+ scene, where she still lives. She has described herself as extremely introverted, which sits oddly against the persona and explains a good deal about the way she performs it.

I'm So Hot, and the first records

The debut single, 'I'm So Hot', arrived on 3 February 2023. Rolling Stone heard notes of Paris Hilton's brief pop career and Britney Spears's Blackout in it, and named her among the brightest pop stars to watch that year. 'Alpha', 'Head Bitch', 'Brat' and 'Affection' followed. Her stated influences are consistent with all of it — Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Slayyyter, Rebecca Black, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Charli XCX — with Bernadette Peters sitting behind them from the musical theatre years.

The debut EP, Girlie Pop, came on 5 June 2024: six tracks, seventeen minutes, hyperpop and electropop production overseen by Dallas Caton with writing from Chlapecka, Alexandra Veltri, Michael Arellano and Jesse Saint John. She summed it up as girly, fun, campy, cheeky self-love music to dance to. The singles were 'I'm Really Pretty' in February, 'Verse' in April, '10 Boyfriends' in May and 'Sugar' on release day. People ranked her fourth on its list of emerging artists that spring. A deluxe edition, Girlie Pop: Encore, followed on 27 September 2024 with three more tracks, taking the running time to just over 28 minutes. She also sang for the drag queen Plane Jane on the season sixteen finale of RuPaul's Drag Race.

In an interview published the day Encore came out, she called the new material more vulnerable than what preceded it, said she felt she was finally becoming the person she wanted to be, and set out her core position without much hedging: femininity is power, and she will never not believe it. Two headline shows were booked off the back of it, the Roxy in Los Angeles on 23 November 2024 and Lincoln Hall in Chicago on 29 November.

Christine

The second EP dropped the persona's name for her own. Christine was released on 21 November 2025 and was trailed across the year by 'Cherry Do You Love Me', 'Clam Casino', 'Passionfruit', 'Apollo' and 'Aria'. A companion record, Christine: High Voltage, followed on 5 June 2026, with 'Andromeda', 'Purple Moon' and 'Female Form' as its singles.

These are the records the current show is built from. The songs that anchor the set now — 'Brain', 'Christine', 'my only dream is to be loved', 'Girl On The Moon', 'Clam Casino', 'Andromeda', 'Passionfruit', 'Apollo', 'Aria' — are almost all from the Christine pair, with 'Affection', 'Head Bitch', 'Sugar' and 'I'm So Hot' held over from the earlier catalogue. Material has also been played before release: 'Spite' and 'Andromeda' were both in the set as unreleased songs when the tour opened.

Where things stand in September 2026

Touring is now the main body of the work. Setlist.fm has logged 23 sets from her in 2026 alone, across a Girl On The Moon tour that began in North America in the spring, continued through the summer and rolls on into December. As of early August 2026 her TikTok following stood at about 4.9 million.

The UK and European leg opens at Academy 2 in Dublin on 24 September 2026, then Belgrave Music Hall in Leeds on the 25th, Slay in Glasgow on the 28th and Mama Roux's in Birmingham on the 29th, before Scala in London on 1 October. Manchester takes two shows in one day at the Pink Room at YES on 3 October. The continental dates run through Le Botanique in Brussels on 5 October, La Boule Noire in Paris on the 6th, Melkweg in Amsterdam on the 9th and Bike Jesus in Prague on the 13th. The Amsterdam show is an extra date added after demand, a 19:30 start in the venue's Annie room at €25.90.

A second North American leg follows in the autumn, opening at the Rebel Lounge in Phoenix on 5 November and running through Austin, Houston, Tampa, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Denver and Santa Ana before finishing at the Voodoo Room at the House of Blues in San Diego on 6 December. The rooms are small — a few hundred capacity in most cases — which is the level an independent act plays at without a major behind it.

Staging: cloaked dancers, moon blocks and a brain cap

The tour opened at Elsewhere in Brooklyn on 4 March 2026 with an 18-song set, and the production has more in it than the room size suggests. It begins with 'Brain', cloaked dancers and a brain-cap reveal; stage blocks are painted to look like the surface of the moon; spoken interludes between songs carry a space-film narrative that holds the Girl On The Moon concept together across the night. Costume changes and reveals run throughout, from a cherry-red crystal-covered anatomical heart chain to a pink princess gown and tiara for 'The One Who Gets to Cry'.

The vocals are live, which reviewers went out of their way to note — 'Aria' is performed through three key changes — and a guitarist, Jude, plays alongside the tracks. Both reviews of the opening night flagged small prop and costume mishaps of the sort a first night produces, and neither treated them as more than that; the assessment in each case was that she holds the stage and can actually sing the material.

She fills the undercard with women and LGBTQ+ performers rather than leaving it to a promoter. Opening night carried three: Malea Kimberly, the Brooklyn performer Harsh Babe, and Luxx Noir London from the fifteenth season of RuPaul's Drag Race.

The room

The audience has a name, the Girlie Pops, and turns up dressed for it. Fans at the Brooklyn opening described her as the embodiment of queer joy and enthusiasm, and the show as something that left them feeling feminine and empowered — which is close to a literal restatement of the thesis she has been arguing since the TikTok videos, so the fit between the politics and the crowd is not accidental.

Across 2026 the average set has settled at around twenty songs. 'Brain' has opened ten of the shows logged and 'I'm So Hot' has closed thirteen of them. Most nights carry no encore at all; four have had one. The shape is fixed, deliberately so, because the costume changes and the narration depend on it.
