The guitarist who stopped standing at the side

Before Dirt Flirt existed as a name, Kit Eaton-Kent was the person to the left of the microphone. Across 2022 and 2023 she toured as Bimini's live guitarist, playing festival main stages and opening for MUNA — a run that gave her the specific, unglamorous education of a support musician: how a set is built, how a room is warmed up, how much of a show is carpentry rather than feeling. That experience is the thing her own live billing still trades on.

Dirt Flirt began as a solo project rather than a band, with Eaton-Kent writing and playing across the instruments herself. The first release under the name was 'Diesel Skirt', put out with a video she made herself. The framing was deliberate from the start: she has said she wanted the debut to be a sapphic love song, after years of shame about being a lesbian, so that there was no version of the project that had to be corrected or explained later. Her stated reference points are not coy about the lineage either — MUNA on one side, My Chemical Romance on the other, which is roughly the distance the songs travel between a synth pad and a distorted guitar.

She describes herself as a pop enthusiast and an ex-emo, and the writing follows suit. 'My writing is all based on real things I've experienced or felt,' she told Urbanista Magazine in June 2025, 'but sometimes I like blurring the lines between fact and fiction.'

The self-titled EP, June 2025

The debut EP, Dirt Flirt, landed on 23 June 2025 on Final Girl Records — her first label partnership, and a women-led indie. It is short by any measure, running to roughly thirteen minutes, and it was produced by Redshank. Its subject matter is queer identity, a messy breakup and the contradictions of being in one's early twenties, handled without much distance between the writer and the material.

The Other Side Reviews covered it on 10 June 2025 and read it as 'a raw, unfiltered journal', crediting Eaton-Kent with walking 'the tightrope between theatrical self-awareness and brutal honesty' rather than tipping into melodrama. That review traced the shape of the record: 'Necklace' as a sparse, brooding opener about cyclical patterns in a toxic relationship; 'Dramatic' as the jolt, distorted guitars and uneasy synths channelling early-2000s emo through a pop chassis; 'Boyfriend' as the brightest thing on it, queer longing with a hook attached; 'Bodycount' as the point where, in the reviewer's phrase, voice and vision coalesce, describing the experience of becoming a footnote in someone else's story; and 'Don't Go' as a ghostly closer.

'Dramatic' was the single that did most of the early work. Produced by Pete Redshank, it is a song about self-sabotage and the loop of self-hatred that keeps it running. Eaton-Kent has been unsentimental about how it came together: the 'own worst enemy' line, she told The Luna Collective, 'was actually thrown in just to make the song sound more emo, but I realised it represents the whole arc.' The EP picked up Spotify placement on New Music Friday UK, All New Pop and Soda, which is how most of the audience outside London found it.

scorpio fever and a harder turn

The second EP, scorpio fever, came out on 22 May 2026, again on Final Girl Records, and it is a concept record in the plainest sense. Five tracks — 'don't tell anyone', 'play pretend', 'focus on u', 'honest' and 'high horse' — follow one relationship through secrecy, infatuation, confrontation and fallout, in that order. 'It's an exploration of how those emotions can shift and transform,' Eaton-Kent said on release day, 'moving from secrecy and intensity to honesty and release.'

Sonically it is darker than the debut. Where the self-titled EP alternated between synth-pop and emo guitars, scorpio fever leans on darkwave-influenced synths and then breaks the mood on purpose: 'focus on u' is the shimmering, upfront pop moment, and 'high horse' brings in drum and bass under an otherwise becalmed closer.

Distorted Sound Magazine reviewed it on 27 May 2026 and gave it 8/10. Charlotte Griffiths singled out 'don't tell anyone' for its shoegaze-tinged opening and 'honest' for the electronic breakdown at its end, which she heard as conflicting emotions clashing together, and made the point that the project resists a tidy genre label. She was less taken with 'high horse', calling it pleasant but the least memorable thing there. The overall verdict was measured rather than breathless: a decent EP that manages to be danceable and emotionally exposed at the same time.

Where things stand, September 2026

The most recent activity is a video for 'honest', which circulated on 5 September 2026 — three and a half months after the EP it comes from, and a sign that Final Girl Records is working scorpio fever as a slow release rather than a single week of noise. Eaton-Kent's own description of the track is characteristically specific: it 'invites the listener into an intimate setting where a relationship is starting to fall apart, and the obsession and idealisation has faded. It explores the vulnerability of realising your own flaws, as well as someone else's.'

The other measurable change this year is the step up from club bills to a headline of her own. On 23 May 2026, the night after scorpio fever came out, Dirt Flirt played her headline debut at The Victoria in Dalston, ticketed through DICE. Before that, the live history reads like a London circuit apprenticeship: support and shared bills at rooms such as Camden Assembly and The Finsbury.

The audience side has been built deliberately and at small scale. Eaton-Kent runs a group chat with fans where demos and updates go out before anything is public — a habit that predates the label deal and has survived it.

Autumn on the road

The current touring commitment is a support slot on girli's the opinionated tour, the run behind girli's album it's just my opinion. Two European dates are listed under Dirt Flirt's own name: Hydrozagadka in Warsaw on Monday 12 October 2026, and Klub Zaścianek in Kraków on Tuesday 13 October 2026, both promoted by Live Nation. girli's schedule then continues to the G2 room at the Garage in Glasgow on Thursday 5 November 2026.

The tour itself opened on 12 June 2026 at Baby's All Right in Brooklyn, a room girli had first played in the US nearly two years earlier. Crave Music Magazine's review of that opening night describes the format the European dates inherit: most of it's just my opinion played through, older material including 'Nothing Hurts Like A Girl', 'More Than A Friend' and 'Friday Night Big Screen' kept in, a running conversation with the room between songs, a slogan-T-shirt contest, and 'Slap On The Wrist' — a song about sexual abuse and harassment — held back as the closer. These are small venues by design, which means a support act gets a short set in front of an audience already primed for the same subject matter.
