A wig, a rehearsal room, and a name from Bruno Mars

The character was an accident..Paak told NME in October 2024 that during the Silk Sonic rehearsals with Bruno Mars the pair were "rehearsing night after day and getting a bit agitated and cranky", so he turned up in a black bob wig to break the mood. Mars named him on the spot: "You got to wear that. You're Pee.Wee on the drums now."

The joke outlived the session..Paak kept the bob on after Silk Sonic shows and started DJing the afterparties in character, which is how the alter ego got its first proper booking in 2022 at On The Record, the speakeasy-styled club inside Park MGM in Las Vegas, with the Las Vegas DJ Eddie Mac helping assemble the crates. The bob, and the rule that everything comes off vinyl, have stayed fixed ever since.

Oxnard, the church drum stool, and the long way round

Brandon Paak Anderson was born on 8 February 1986 in Oxnard, California, to an African American father and a Korean mother, and learned to play behind a drum kit in church. His childhood was rough in ways he has discussed openly: he witnessed violence between his parents at seven, and his mother was jailed for investment fraud while he was at high school.

He recorded first as Breezy Lovejoy, then reset in 2012 as Anderson.Paak, explaining that the full stop "stands for detail". Dr. Dre signed him to Aftermath in 2016 and executive produced both Malibu (2016) and Oxnard (2018). "Bubblin" won Best Rap Performance at the 2019 Grammys. Silk Sonic, the duo with Mars, arrived in 2021 and took four Grammys in 2022, including Record and Song of the Year for "Leave the Door Open".

The work has kept branching. In 2024 he put out Why Lawd? with the producer Knxwledge under the NxWorries name, and directed his first film, K-Pops!, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and cast his eldest son, Soul. DJ Pee.Wee sits alongside all of that rather than replacing any of it.

The all-vinyl rule

The central constraint of a Pee.Wee set is that there is no laptop. He says so out loud: at Phillips Brewing's Tilt! festival in Victoria on 8 July 2023 he opened by shouting "No computers!" at the crowd, which got a roar. That show, played in a red suit, ran from 1990s R&B through alternative rock and hip-hop, with the trumpeter Maurice Brown feeding ad-libs and effects over the top, a stretch where.Paak moved to the drums while Brown led, and an encore where he sang live over his own recorded vocals.

He has described the DJing as a return rather than a new hobby, something he did at house parties as a teenager, and credits it with pushing him into house, dance, new wave and 1980s records he had not been digging through as a singer. The bookings have skewed towards rooms where a famous face helps: the Met Gala, F1 in Las Vegas, Coachella, a Billboard and Doritos showcase at SXSW on 17 March 2023 where he opened with Silk Sonic's own "Leave the Door Open" and then ran through Justin Timberlake, Nelly and Missy Elliott, and the Ericka Nicole Malone Entertainment creators lounge at Sundance in Park City on 25 January 2025. He headlined Red Bull Directions at First Avenue in Minneapolis on 8 November 2025, with Sophia Eris and Kwey supporting.

Where he stands in September 2026

The Romantic Tour is the biggest thing he has attached the name to. Bruno Mars' fourth-album run opened on 10 April 2026 at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada, and is scheduled to close on 30 May 2027 after 127 shows across North America, Europe, Asia and Australasia, having grown from a planned 39 stadium dates on demand..Paak opens as DJ Pee.Wee, with the second support slot rotating: Leon Thomas through the spring, Victoria Monet over the European summer, Raye from August, and Tyla later in the run. The itinerary includes six nights at Wembley Stadium in July 2026, four at Rogers Stadium in Toronto, MetLife in late August and SoFi at the turn of October.

Listings currently show 56 upcoming dates under the DJ Pee.Wee name into 2027, taking in Mexico in December 2026, Australia and New Zealand in February and March 2027 and Asia in the spring. Almost all are Romantic Tour stadium bills; the exception is the sort of late-night club booking the alias was built for, such as E11even in Miami on 19 September 2026, the same night as the Hard Rock Stadium show up the road.

Away from the decks he is back in record-release mode. "A Good Day", a collaboration with Cordae built on Bill Withers' "Lovely Day" with a Dave Meyers-directed video that nods to Friday, came out on 16 September 2026. It is the first single from Heavy Is the Crown, a co-headline album with Cordae due on 23 October 2026 through APESHIT and EMPIRE with Hi Level and Mass Appeal.

What the set actually is

The stadium version is tightly shaped and unusually legible for a DJ set: around twenty records, nearly all of them things the whole building already knows. At Wembley on 22 July 2026 he went from ABBA's "Dancing Queen" into Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody", then Oasis' "Wonderwall" and Estelle's "American Boy" before dropping into Travis Scott's "FE!N" and Cordae's "RNP". The back half ran Technotronic, Salt-N-Pepa, Rihanna, Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, Soulja Boy, Fetty Wap, DJ Sammy's "Heaven" and Lil Jon, with two of his own songs, "Am I Wrong" and "Come Down", late on and "I Will Always Love You" as the close.

He edits it for the town. At Gillette Stadium in Foxborough on 6 September 2026 the same spine picked up The Standells' "Dirty Water" and Dropkick Murphys' "I'm Shipping Up to Boston", plus a-ha, House of Pain, Britney Spears' "Toxic" and Bruno Mars' own "The Lazy Song" on the way through. Reviewing the Charlotte date at Bank of America Stadium on 29 April 2026, one write-up had him jumping from ABBA to Whitney Houston to Cali Swag District without losing the thread and moving, in its phrase, "like a b-boy half his age". He does not disappear after the opening slot either: at Charlotte he came back out during the Silk Sonic section of Mars' own show.
