Three chords from Oberbillig: the Mosel punk band that built its own festival

Dorfterror formed in 2018 among school pupils in a village on the German–Luxembourg border; their second album Schreikinder arrived in March 2026 and the tour behind it opens on 6 November, with the Trier date already sold out.

A village on the Mosel, and a band named after it

Dorfterror was founded on 12 January 2018 by pupils at the Gymnasium in Konz, a short way up the Mosel from Oberbillig, the village on the German–Luxembourg border that gave the band its name. Dominik Ruth has dated the original idea to 2015 and a trip to England with friends. For the first stretch the group rehearsed only now and then; it became a working band once the line-up settled.

Ruth sings and plays rhythm guitar under the name Fussel. Lukas Ruth, credited as elgatocastrado, plays lead guitar and sings. Florin Große drums as Tier, das. The line-up documented in 2022 had Florian Adam on bass; the label and the band's current credits list Julia, known as Chili, on bass and vocals.

Asked about their influences in August 2022, the band named Die Toten Hosen, Broilers, Anti-Flag and above all Pascow, whose songs filled much of the early repertoire, alongside Queen, Imagine Dragons, My Chemical Romance and Linkin Park. Dominik Ruth's summary in the same interview was that the band uses music as a tool for its opinions, and the records have held to that: ignored young voices, environmental damage, people with money dodging responsibility, and the far right.

From a basement EP to a first album

The debut EP, Schülerpunk, appeared in 2019 and was put together in a basement. The first full album, Zivilisation & Abgrund, followed in August 2022. A review in the regional outlet 5vier that month described it as an unusual record for a punk band, mixing melodic songs, a slow duet and faster punk-rock numbers with traces of indie, and called it a one-off piece of work rather than a genre exercise.

The No Future Kid EP came in April 2024: five tracks, harder and quicker than what came before, written out of a generation's frustration at being left out of political decisions. The video for the title track was shot in Doel in Belgium, a village under pressure from port expansion. The band's reach widened with the single Blaue Haare, which featured Blaufuchs. Songs are still recorded in their own studio in Oberbillig, with mixing and mastering help from people in their immediate circle.

Schreikinder, 6 March 2026

The second album, Schreikinder, was released on 6 March 2026 by Dackelton Records on CD and vinyl. It runs to thirteen tracks — among them Alle sind allein, Drei Akkorde trotzdem nice, Oh Panama, Kein Fussbreit, Blaue Haare, Lotterie des Lebens, Grüne Hölle, No Future Kid and Nur mit euch — and was produced by Kurt Ebelhäuser with Michel Wern at Tonstudio45. The label frames it as a record about dystopian patterns in society and in the punk scene itself, written from inside a generation caught between global crises and a hardening social climate.

Two singles set it up. A video for Am Arsch die Römer went out on 14 February 2025. Kein Fussbreit followed on 21 November 2025, a 1:58 track cut with Sebastian Krumbiegel, Popperklopper, Graupause, Der Ganze Rest, Sinnfrei and Destination Anywhere, turning the behaviour of the far-right mob into a chorus.

Reception has been warm rather than ecstatic. Away From Life's review on 5 March 2026 called it properly played punk rock with German lyrics that pushes forward, praised the maturity and the overall package and recommended buying it, while saying some of the lighter material landed less well and singling out Nur mit euch as the weakest point. Musik unterm Radar, writing the same day, described the album as edgier, rawer and more emotional than its predecessor, and as a release valve for anger and indifference.

A festival of their own

Alongside the records, the band runs Konz wird laut!, a free and non-commercial festival funded through a federal democracy foundation, for which they received their state's youth engagement award. They have also collected donations for Izulu Water, which drills wells in South Africa, and have campaigned about the steady loss of underground venues and cultural spaces in their corner of Rhineland-Palatinate.

That interest in rooms is not abstract. Much of the band's touring happens in exactly the kind of space they argue for — clubs, youth centres and small festivals — and the 2024 interview in which they discussed it noted gigs in places as unlikely as an egg farm with chickens wandering about. Their stated preference is a small audience that cares over a large one that does not.

Where they stand now

2026 was mostly a festival year before the album tour. The band played Substage in Karlsruhe on 23 January, KNRD Fest in Nuremberg over 17–18 July, Refuse Festival in Peine over 24–25 July, and opened the Friday programme on the pool stage at Rock am Beckenrand in Wolfshagen in the Harz on the last weekend of August, an edition that drew more than 3,000 people. In December 2025 they had appeared at Punk im Pott in Oberhausen on a bill with Dritte Wahl, Das Lumpenpack, Schliessmuskel, Alarmsignal and 100 Kilo Herz, and in September 2025 at Kulturschock Zelle in Reutlingen with KRACHN!X, Dumb Bats and Küste, where the reviewer found the energy and the socially critical hooklines carried the original material well.

The Schreikinder Tour 2026 opens on 6 November at the Mehrgenerationenhaus Linde in Kirchheim unter Teck, then 7 November at KuZeB in Bremgarten in Switzerland, 12 November at the Goldgrube in Kassel, 13 November at Bandhaus Hamburg, 14 November at the Dackelton Festival at Bollwerk 107 in Moers, 27 November at the TV-Club in Leipzig, 28 November at Ponyhof in Frankfurt, 4 December at the Jugendzentrum Auf der Höhe in Trier, and 5 December at the Alte Zuckerfabrik in Wegeleben. The Trier show is sold out; Bremgarten is box office only.

Beyond that, a spring 2027 tour with Pestpocken and Rawside was announced on 27 October 2026, including 12 March at the Chemiefabrik in Dresden and 13 March at the Arena in Vienna. Summer 2027 bookings already confirmed include Visbek Rockt on 22 May, the Ain't Like You Festival in Torgau from 10 to 12 June, and Balarock in Bad Laasphe over 18–19 June. Booking runs through Billig People Booking.

The show, now

The current run is a standing-room club tour behind Schreikinder, opening on 6 November 2026 in Kirchheim unter Teck and finishing on 5 December in Wegeleben, in rooms of club and youth-centre scale rather than halls. The Kassel date at the Goldgrube on 12 November is typical of the shape: doors at 7.30pm, music from 8pm, €18 standing, one support act — Pastor Gerald, who alternate melodic songs with coarser, comic ones — and a local promoter, Moshpit Crew Cassel, putting it on. Set lengths are not advertised, and the staging is not a production: four players, German lyrics, and the set drawn from the thirteen tracks of Schreikinder plus the No Future Kid EP and Zivilisation & Abgrund, with Kein Fussbreit and Blaue Haare among the songs audiences arrive knowing. The 14 November date in Moers is a festival slot at the label's own Dackelton Festival at Bollwerk 107, and festival appearances through 2026 have been short: at Rock am Beckenrand in the Harz in late August they opened the Friday pool stage in the morning and, by the festival report, had people dancing and jumping in front of the stage before midday. Demand is strongest at home — the hometown-region show at the Jugendzentrum Auf der Höhe in Trier on 4 December sold out ahead of the tour, and the Swiss date at KuZeB in Bremgarten on 7 November is box office only.
