Emre Aydin

Isparta, Antalya, and a contest with 1,500 entrants

Emre Aydın was born in Isparta on 2 February 1981, the first child of two pharmacists, Şaban and Nermin Aydın. The family moved to Antalya while he was young, and he took up the saz before switching to guitar. He finished Antalya Anadolu Lisesi and went to Dokuz Eylül University in İzmir to read economics, which is what he was doing in 2002 when Show TV advertised a songwriting competition called Şarkını Söyle.

He entered with a song of his own, "Dönersen", alongside a friend, Onur Ela. Out of roughly 1,500 applicants the pair won. The track was picked up by Universal Music Turkey for a compilation, and the two were offered a contract — an unusually clean route out of a degree he had no intention of using.

6. Cadde, and the decision to carry on alone

The duo took the name 6. Cadde and released a self-titled album produced by Haluk Kurosman through Universal Music Turkey. Its most talked-about track was a reworking of the arabesk standard "Sabuha", which set a pattern Aydın has returned to since: guitar-band arrangements applied to material Turkish rock audiences had been taught to look down on.

The partnership did not last. 6. Cadde split in 2003, and Aydın spent the next three years assembling a solo record rather than chasing the momentum of the television win. When he re-emerged in 2006 it was with a full album and a set of session players drawn from the two biggest guitar bands in the country.

Afili Yalnızlık and the albums that followed

Afili Yalnızlık arrived on 10 October 2006 on Sony Music/GRGDN, again produced by Haluk Kurosman and recorded at the GRGDN studio. İlker Baliç of Gripin played drums on several tracks and Cem Bahtiyar of maNga played bass. The record is built end to end around loneliness, in the lyrics and in the arrangements, and it sold around 120,000 copies — a figure that meant something in the Turkish physical market of the time. Six singles charted, with the title track, "Kim Dokunduysa Sana Ona Git" and "Git" all reaching the upper end of the Turkish Top 20, and seven videos were shot, the title track by Yon Thomas.

Awards followed quickly: Blue Jean's best newcomer, best song and best video in 2006; Powertürk's best newcomer in 2007; best song and best duet in 2008 for work with Gripin; then the MTV Europe Music Award for Europe's Favourite Act in 2008, which remains his only significant win outside Turkey. He also became one of the hardest-touring Turkish acts of the period — by August 2007 he had played 130 shows in that year alone.

The second album, Kağıt Evler, came in 2010 and sold around 117,000 copies. He recorded it over two months in Sweden with the producer Mats Valentin, and described it at the time as a themed record about forgetting, or trying to. Eylül Geldi Sonra was released on 16 December 2013. Then came a long gap in albums, broken in 2019 by Uyut Beni.

Singles instead of albums

Since Eylül Geldi Sonra, Aydın has largely stopped making albums and released singles instead, at a rate of roughly one or two a year. "Bir Pazar Kahvaltısı" in 2014 is still among his most-streamed recordings. "Beni Vurup Yerde Bırakma" followed in 2017, then "Yalnızım Dostlarım" in 2020, "Beni Anla" in 2021, "Kör Kuyu" and "Yansın" in 2022 and "Fırtınam" in 2023.

The pace picked up again in 2024 and 2025. "Gidiyorum" and "Herkes Mi Terk Etmiş" both appeared in 2024. "Bir Şişe Kırmızı" arrived in January 2025, announced with its video on 9 January. He contributed "Sana Değmez" to a Feridun Hürel tribute album the same year. The most recent release under his own name is the single "Son Yalancı", issued on 6 June 2025; nothing has followed it in the fifteen months since.

His label history maps the shifting Turkish industry rather than any artistic turn: Sony Music from 2006 to 2012, 565 Yapım to 2015, DMC to 2018, and Hangar since. He married the interior architect Eda Köksal in 2016.

Where he stands in September 2026

The touring, not the recording, is the live business now. In May 2025 he played Ondokuz Mayıs University's fiftieth-anniversary celebrations in Samsun, with a date at the OMÜ Yaşam Merkezi on 9 May at 20:00, and in June he took an open-air date at Jolly Joker's outdoor venue in Istanbul on 7 June. This summer he closed the season in Bursa on 11 September 2026, a 21:00 start at the Kültürpark open-air theatre, with tickets from about ₺1,400 and a bill previewed as career material alongside the recent singles.

The autumn is where the volume is. Biletix currently lists around twenty dates on sale, opening in Istanbul on 9 October 2026 at IF Performance Hall Beşiktaş, then Hayal Kahvesi Aqua Florya on 10 October, Mask Beach on 23 October and Dorock XL in Kocaeli on 24 October. November runs through Milyon Performance Hall in Eskişehir on the 6th and Ankara on the 7th, then east: Erzurum on the 13th, Elazığ on the 14th, Malatya on the 15th, Şanlıurfa on the 18th, Diyarbakır on the 20th and Mardin on the 21st, before Sivas, Kayseri and Konya close the month. Denizli follows on 4 December. Ticket prices run from ₺420 in Eskişehir and Ankara to ₺1,500 in Elazığ and Şanlıurfa.

The shape of that itinerary is the most telling thing about his position. Half of it is in municipal culture centres and congress halls — the Necip Fazıl Kısakürek Kültür Merkezi in Erzurum, the Sezai Karakoç centre in Diyarbakır, the Anadolu Sahne at Selçuklu Kongre Merkezi in Konya — rather than the club circuit that made him. It is a seated, regional, ticket-by-ticket business, and it coincides with the twentieth anniversary of Afili Yalnızlık on 10 October 2026, a date that falls in the middle of the Istanbul run.

A catalogue that does the work

What holds the touring together is a body of songs that has stayed in circulation without much promotional help. "Afili Yalnızlık", "Hoşçakal", "Bu Yağmurlar", "Soğuk Odalar", "Git" and "Kim Dokunduysa Sana Ona Git" are two decades old and still the fixed points of a Turkish rock set; "Bir Pazar Kahvaltısı" and "Yansın" have joined them from the streaming era. Concert listings for the 2026 dates lead on those titles rather than on anything released since.

Documentation of his live work is thin — setlist.fm holds only nine logged sets between 2007 and 2024, which is a poor record for a man who played 130 shows in eight months of 2007. What the logs do show is consistency: the same core of songs, in much the same order, across a festival stage at Güzelçamlı in July 2024, a club night at Holly Stone Beyoğlu in November 2024 and a hall show at Milyon Performance Hall in Ankara that December.
