Taşıma Kapasitesi: Esra Çelik's three Friday nights in Üsküdar
A solo stand-up hour billed as the work of the only orthopedically disabled performer currently working the Turkish stand-up circuit, running for three Fridays in October 2026 at a cafe-theatre on the edge of Validebağ Korusu — and almost entirely undocumented outside the ticket listings.
Three Fridays in Üsküdar
As of October 2026 the whole of Esra Çelik's publicly visible working calendar is three evenings. Taşıma Kapasitesi — carrying capacity — is listed at Cafe Theatre Koşuyolu on 16, 23 and 30 October 2026, each at 19.00. Biletix carries the 16 October performance in its comedy and stand-up calendar from 360 lira. The discount platform Fırsat Bu Fırsat lists all three dates at 500 lira full price and 300 lira for students, at the venue's address in Barbaros Mahallesi, Bekir Sıtkı Sezgin Sokak No 168. A third aggregator, Eventpal, had the same 16 October night at 329 lira, a nine per cent cut off a 362-lira face value.
The slot matters as much as the date. Cafe Theatre's published week around those dates runs Ağzı Çiçekli Adam on Tuesday 13 October at 20.30, Bir Delinin Hatıra Defteri at 18.00 and Yaşar Ne Yaşar Ne Yaşamaz at 20.30 on Wednesday 14 October, Edepsiz Komedi at 23.00 the same night, Tinder Çarpsın on Thursday 15 October at 20.30, and Neşeli Gazino at 20.30 on the Friday. Çelik's hour is the 19.00 curtain-raiser before that Friday cabaret, and at 360 lira it is the cheapest ticket on the grid — the house productions start at 672 lira and Tinder Çarpsın at 888. This is the opening hour of a commercial evening, sold at the entry price, which is where a new stand-up hour is normally assembled rather than where a finished one lands.
The line on the billing
One sentence recurs verbatim across every platform selling the show: Çelik is described as the only orthopedically disabled person actively performing stand-up in Turkey. Identical phrasing on Biletix, Fırsat Bu Fırsat and the aggregators indicates a single source — promoter copy, written to be reproduced, not a claim that any of those sites has checked. Nothing in the published record verifies or contradicts it.
What the line does establish is an editorial decision. Disability is on the poster rather than kept off it, and it is framed as subject matter rather than as a caveat. The same copy sets out the material: parodies drawn from Çelik's profession, her family, and what it calls the human search for power, taking in work, relationships and power dynamics. Her profession is named as one of the three pillars of the hour without ever being specified, which leaves the most interesting thing about the premise — what the day job actually is — unanswered by the listings.
That is the full extent of the authored description available in advance. There is no director credit, no co-writer, no producing company and no mention of a longer run beyond the three Fridays.
A name that returns more than one record
Searching the name produces several distinct performers and no way to merge them. The Turkish theatre database tiyatrolar.com.tr holds a profile for an actress called Esra Çelik with a single credit, Bir Şehnaz Oyun from 2017, marked as concluded, logged against the 21st Istanbul Theatre Festival. Beyazperde holds a profile for an Esra Çelik with one film credit, Sir – Ayet: 4, released on 14 March 2025. Two separate IMDb entries exist under the name. Dergi Baykuş published an interview on 27 July 2025 with an Esra Çelik who played Remziye — a headscarved character with a German accent — in the series Ömer, and who, after a stretch of invisibility in the film and television industry, moved to writing and performing her own sketches on YouTube, a platform she described as her free space for acting.
None of the ticketing copy for Taşıma Kapasitesi references any of those credits, and none of those records mentions stand-up. The honest position is that the stand-up billed in Üsküdar cannot be tied to any of them from the open record. Pinning her CV down would take a direct interview or programme note; neither exists in public.
The room she is playing
Cafe Theatre Koşuyolu is a boutique space in Üsküdar, sited where the Koşuyolu neighbourhood meets Validebağ Korusu, which runs a stage alongside a working cafe under the motto sanatın en lezzetli hali — roughly, art at its most delicious. It is open Tuesday to Sunday from 14.00 to 02.00 and closed on Mondays. The programme mixes adult and children's theatre, interactive stand-up, acoustic concerts, book signings and creative drama workshops. No seating capacity is published on either the venue's iTicket page or its Biletix page; the descriptions emphasise the warmth of a room theatre, and ticket-platform reviews single out the intimacy of the space and the degree of interaction with the stage.
The surrounding market gives the 360-lira ticket its scale. Istanbul's comedy listings on Eventpal ran to 788 events at the time of checking, topped by Çok Güzel Hareketler 2 at Beşiktaş Kültür Merkezi on 17 October at 1,400 lira, Uraz Kaygılaroğlu's Still Standing at Caddebostan Kültür Merkezi on 2 November at 1,500, and a Kemal Ayça stand-up at Kadıköy Eğitim Sahnesi on 12 December at 600. Çelik sits at the bottom of that ladder by a factor of four, in the most crowded live-comedy market in the country.
What the record does not have yet
There are no published reviews of Taşıma Kapasitesi. There is no televised set, no streaming special, no recorded hour, no tour outside the single Üsküdar address, and no verified interview in which the performer discusses the stand-up in her own words. Everything currently retrievable about the show is sales copy and a calendar entry, and the copy is one paragraph long.
That calendar also moves. The same venue grid that carries her three Fridays shows Metin Zakoğlu's children's stand-up on Saturday 17 October marked cancelled, which is a fair indication of how firm a small-room listing is a few days out. Checking the date before travelling is the sensible move.
The useful markers to watch are ordinary ones: whether the run extends past 30 October, whether a second venue books the hour, and whether any Turkish outlet reviews it. A performer billed as the only one of her kind working the circuit is a straightforward story for the arts pages, and the absence of that coverage so far is the most concrete fact about her standing right now.
The show, now
Taşıma Kapasitesi is a solo stand-up set at 19.00, the early slot at Cafe Theatre Koşuyolu, a cafe-and-stage room in Üsküdar that bills itself on room-theatre intimacy and runs coffee service alongside the performance; no running time is published on Biletix, Fırsat Bu Fırsat or Eventpal, and no support act or second name appears on any of the three dates — the 20.30 Friday show, Neşeli Gazino, is a separate ticket. The shape of the hour comes only from the promoter's own description: parodies built out of her profession, her family and what the copy calls the human search for power, taking in work, relationships and power dynamics, with disability declared on the billing as part of the act. Tickets run 500 lira full and 300 for students on Fırsat Bu Fırsat, from 360 on Biletix, and 329 discounted on Eventpal, which puts it at the cheapest end of the venue's week, where the house productions start at 672. No published review of the show exists; audience comment on the ticket platforms is directed at the venue rather than the act, praising the closeness of the room and the amount of interaction with the stage. Venue listings for the same week include a cancelled show, so the date is worth re-checking before travelling.
