Four years of Friffness: Frankfurt's action-rock second act
Friffer Galore are five Frankfurt musicians with other bands behind them, playing German-language action rock on the Rhine-Main club circuit. Three two-track singles in 2025 and one date on sale — 21 November 2026 in Neu-Isenburg — mark exactly where they have got to.
Previous form, new name
The band's own framing is blunt and slightly defensive: no newcomers, and not a reinvention that anyone forced on them. Read as a CV note rather than a boast, it is accurate. The five arrived from other Frankfurt-area outfits — Philipp on vocals and piano out of Stage Bottles and Dolf, Lucca behind the drums from Missprint, Julian on guitar formerly of Backdoorslam, and Thorsten on guitar alongside Thomas on bass, both out of Four Hout Fellas. Nobody in the line-up is learning the instrument in public.
When the band booked a Frankfurt show for 28 March 2026, it was billed as Four Years Of Friffness, which puts the start of the project in 2022. That makes Friffer Galore a four-year-old band staffed by musicians with roughly two decades of Rhine-Main gigging between them — which explains why their earliest listed dates are already on shared bills in other cities rather than on open-mic nights at home.
Frankfurt am Main is the base and the subject matter is sung in German, not English. For a band working from Scandinavian hard-rock templates, that is the first real decision they made, and it narrows the audience to German-speaking rooms by design.
What German-language action rock means here
The band's description of its own sound is a pun that only lands in German: a return to the time when amplifiers and jeans were both still made of tubes — Röhrenverstärker and Röhrenjeans — and when the thing raised in the air at a concert was either a fist or a beer. The reference points they name are Turbonegro and The Hellacopters, which places the guitars in late-1990s Scandinavian action rock rather than in anything Frankfurt was doing at the time.
The other half of the self-description is political and explicit: the band states it has no tolerance for Nazis and other idiots, and the bills they appear on carry the same wording. Their Nuremberg date on 28 February 2025 ran under the stated house rule of no Nazis, no sexists, no homophobia, no bullshit. For a German-language rock band leaning on 1970s hard-rock signifiers — leather, riffs, fists, beer — that disclaimer is not decoration; it is a boundary marker separating them from the parts of the German rock scene that use the same visual language for uglier ends.
Classification sites file them variously under rock, alternative and independent, punk and hardcore, and rock'n'roll and rockabilly. The spread is less a muddle than an accurate reading of a band with punk tempos, hard-rock guitar tone and a piano player.
Three double singles, no album
The recorded output is slim and deliberately shaped. Three releases appeared in 2025, each a two-track pairing rather than a single with a B-side afterthought. FEUER // SCHEIN arrived on 27 June 2025, carrying Schein and Feuer. NFAGDW // DOPAMIN pairs an acronym with Dopamin. Odyssee holds Odyssee and Steine Auf Dem Weg. Of those six tracks, Schein and Feuer are the two that get played most.
No label is attached to any of the releases on the streaming shopfronts, and no album or EP has been announced. The pattern — paired A-sides, released in sequence across a single year, nothing collected — is what a band does when it is writing faster than it is recording and wants new material in the live set rather than a finished record on a shelf. It also means there is no album cycle to tour, which shapes everything about how the band books.
The streaming footprint is correspondingly small. Friffer Galore exist on the major platforms with artist pages dating from early 2025, and the listener numbers are in the dozens rather than the thousands. This is a band whose actual audience is in rooms, not in a recommendation algorithm.
The circuit, date by date
The gig history on the public record is a working support-band itinerary. On 28 February 2025 they played the Kunstverein's room on Hintere Cramergasse in Nuremberg, on a three-band bill with GvH and Iron Snag Joe, doors at 20:00 and music from 21:00. On 26 April 2025 they were in Cologne at Limes, supporting Stage Bottles — Philipp's former band, which is how a good deal of this circuit actually works. On 28 November 2025 they were back in Frankfurt at the Schöppche Keller with Juicy Roadkill. A Wiesbaden date supporting the Canadian punk band The Anti Queens has also passed.
The geography is Hesse first, then North Rhine-Westphalia and Bavaria on single-night trips. The rooms are cellars, youth-culture centres and art-association spaces measured in dozens to low hundreds of people. Nothing in the diary suggests a booking agency driving a routed tour; it reads as dates taken one at a time, often from bands the members already know.
That is also the context for the anniversary show. Four Years Of Friffness on 28 March 2026 in Frankfurt, with The Muttnicks, was the band marking its own calendar in its own city rather than a promoter marking it for them.
October 2026: one date on sale
As of late October 2026 the public diary holds exactly one date: 21 November 2026 at the Treffpunkt in Neu-Isenburg, immediately south of Frankfurt. It is the first listing that puts Friffer Galore at the top of the bill in a municipal venue rather than a bar basement, which is a meaningful step up in room size even if it is a short one in distance.
What is not there matters as much. There is no announced album, no label, no routed tour, and no national music press has written about them — the entire documentary trail is venue listings, platform pages, a band profile and the band's own copy. Anyone wanting a critical verdict on Friffer Galore will not find one yet, because none has been published.
That leaves the Neu-Isenburg date carrying more weight than a single November club show normally would. It is the only thing on sale, it is a headline slot, and for a band four years in with six released tracks it is the clearest available test of whether the Frankfurt following travels the twelve kilometres south.
What the room gets
The format is consistent across every dated show: a plain club stage, two guitars, bass, drums and a vocalist who also plays piano, with no production beyond the house lights and the house PA. Start times run late by British habit — the Nuremberg bill opened its doors at 20:00 and did not begin until 21:00 — and support-slot sets on three-band nights are short by necessity.
The repertoire available to draw on is six released tracks plus unrecorded material, which is the main reason to expect a tight set rather than a long one. Headline nights such as the Neu-Isenburg date are where the band gets to play everything it has.
The show, now
A Friffer Galore show in 2026 is a club night in the strict sense: a small stage, two guitars, bass, drums and a singer who doubles on piano, played through the house system with no staging, screens or production cues. Dated bills show the standard shape — three bands, doors an hour before music, a 21:00 start at the Nuremberg Kunstverein in February 2025, a cellar bar in Frankfurt with Juicy Roadkill in November 2025, support to Stage Bottles at Limes in Cologne in April 2025 and to Canada's The Anti Queens in Wiesbaden. With six released tracks plus unrecorded songs, support sets are necessarily short and the set is drawn from Schein, Feuer, Dopamin, NFAGDW, Odyssee and Steine Auf Dem Weg; the headline nights, including the Four Years Of Friffness anniversary in Frankfurt on 28 March 2026 and the 21 November 2026 date at the Treffpunkt in Neu-Isenburg, are the ones where the whole catalogue gets an airing. Lyrics are in German throughout, the guitar sound is closer to Turbonegro and The Hellacopters than to anything local, and the bills carry an explicit house rule against Nazis, sexists and homophobes. No published concert reviews or press verdicts on the live show exist yet, so the only honest account of the room is the booking pattern itself: small venues, late starts, shared bills with bands the members have played in before.
