From Cem Adrian's control room to a club circuit of her own: Hande Mehan

A songwriter from Diyarbakır who spent her first years in the studio working on someone else's records, Hande Mehan now puts out a single every few weeks for Sony Music Türkiye and works the Turkish club circuit under her own name. Her debut album arrived in June 2025; the newest release landed in May 2026.

Diyarbakır, then a control room

Hande Mehan was born on 22 December 1995 in Diyarbakır. The part of her story that sits oddly against the usual singer-songwriter arc is the order of events: she met the Turkish musician Cem Adrian during her university years and went to work as a producer on his records before she released anything under her own name. The studio came first, the microphone second, and the habits of that apprenticeship are audible in the records she has made since — arrangements kept thin, voice placed forward, very little in the way of production gloss.

The first release of her own came on 17 May 2018, when she put "Sen Beni Güzel Hatırla" on YouTube. She had written both the words and the music, and the upload route rather than a label launch set the pattern for the next few years. Several more singles followed in the same year — "Benimle Yaşa", "Dudak Kenarı", "Adı Yok" and "Kime Veda Ediyorsun?" — a rate of release that suggests a backlog of finished songs rather than a sudden decision to start writing.

Two other things happened in 2018 that widened her reach beyond the upload counter. She contributed vocals to the soundtrack of the film Bizim İçin Şampiyon, and she performed at the Trakya Music Festival. Neither made her a headline act, but both put her in front of audiences who had not come looking for her.

The duet that did the work

The single piece of recorded work that opened the most doors was not one of her own compositions. With Cem Adrian she recorded a version of İlhan Şeşen's "Sen Benim Şarkılarımsın", and it has passed sixteen million views. Adrian, by then her producer rather than her employer, also brought her out as a guest at his own concerts, which is how a large part of her early live audience found her: inherited from a more established act, in rooms she had not yet booked herself.

From there the collaborations broadened. "Mesafeler", a joint single with Hakan Tunçbilek, came in 2019. In 2020 she appeared on 2020 Model, the album built around the writing of Murathan Mungan — a project that tends to collect singers rather than launch them, and a useful signal about where she was being placed in Turkish music. Recorded work with Mehmet Güreli, Teoman, Taladro and Mil Savior followed, spanning a stylistic range from songwriterly Turkish rock to rap.

She has also stepped outside the acoustic frame. With the quartet Bandtra she recorded "Bu Gece Benimle Kal", a move into electronic production that Turkish music press treated as a genuine departure rather than a remix exercise. It remains an outlier in a catalogue that otherwise sits between Turkish folk material and contemporary singer-songwriter writing.

Yirmisekiz, and the records that trailed it

The run-up to her first album was deliberate and slow. Acoustic Sessions I, a four-track EP, appeared on 8 March 2024 and set out the method plainly: one voice, minimal accompaniment, no attempt to disguise the room. The single "Dermanım Yok" followed on 17 May 2024.

Then came a sequence of reinterpretations released as previews of the album proper. The third of them, "Suzan Suzi", arrived on 6 December 2024 through Sony Music Türkiye — an anonymous Turkish folk türkü, arranged by Miraç Yavuz, with a video posted to her YouTube channel at the same time. The approach described by the Turkish press at the time was a balancing act: modernise the arrangement, leave the emotional content of the original where it was. Choosing an anonymous folk song as a label-backed single is a statement about repertoire as much as about taste; there is no original artist to be compared against, only the song itself.

Yirmisekiz — the Turkish word for twenty-eight, her age through most of the period in which the album was being trailed — was released on 13 June 2025 by Sony Music Türkiye, with twelve tracks. It was her first full-length after seven years of singles, EPs and guest appearances, and it moved her from a YouTube-first artist to one with a major label's release schedule behind her.

A single every few weeks

What has happened since the album is a markedly faster release cadence. Across 2025 she issued "Gurur", "Bir De Sen Gitme" and "İki Kadın Bir Adam", then "Ne Söylesen İnanırım" on 24 October 2025 and "Olmaz" on 28 November 2025.

2026 has been busier still. "Araton" came on 5 February, "Anladım" with Çağan Şengül on 13 March, "Dayanamıyorum" on 3 April, "Haktan" on 24 April, and an acoustic rework of "Dayanamıyorum" on 22 May. The acoustic-version-after-the-original pattern is a familiar piece of streaming-era release planning, and in her case it also happens to match what she was already doing before the label arrived.

The practical effect is that her live repertoire now turns over faster than her album schedule implies. A set built in early 2026 would already be carrying four or five songs that did not exist when Yirmisekiz was released.

The rooms she plays

Mehan's touring sits on the mid-size Turkish club and performance-hall circuit rather than in arenas. Through the first half of 2026 she played the Jolly Joker chain: Jolly Joker Kocaeli in İzmit on 14 February, Jolly Joker Kartal İSTMarina in Istanbul on 6 March, and Jolly Joker Ankara on 22 April. Ankara's IF Performance Hall has also hosted her more than once.

The other end of her booking range is the late-night club date. A show at Muaf Kadıköy in Istanbul on 4 December 2024, promoted by CES Yapım, started at 22:00 with tickets from 485 Turkish lira — a different proposition from a seated performance hall, and an indication that the same set has to work in both.

On the demand side the numbers are modest but real: Songkick logs 22 past shows and roughly 6,461 people tracking her for concert alerts, and lists her as currently touring. Dates tend to appear in small clusters — a handful on sale at any one time — rather than as a named tour with a published itinerary.

The show, now

A Hande Mehan show in 2026 is a mid-size indoor booking rather than a festival-scale production. The venues documented across the first half of the year are the Jolly Joker chain — Kocaeli on 14 February, Kartal İSTMarina in Istanbul on 6 March, Ankara on 22 April — alongside repeat appearances at Ankara's IF Performance Hall; at the other end of the range sits the late-night club date, such as Muaf Kadıköy in Istanbul on 4 December 2024, a 22:00 start with tickets from 485 lira promoted by CES Yapım. The material is drawn from the twelve tracks of Yirmisekiz plus a fast-moving run of 2026 singles ("Araton", "Anladım" with Çağan Şengül, "Dayanamıyorum", "Haktan"), and the arrangements lean on the stripped-back voice-and-instrument approach she set out on the Acoustic Sessions I EP and returned to in the acoustic rework of "Dayanamıyorum" in May 2026. Her folk reinterpretations, including the anonymous türkü "Suzan Suzi" arranged by Miraç Yavuz, sit in the set beside her own writing. Shows are announced in small clusters rather than as a named tour with a published itinerary — a handful of dates on sale at a time — and Songkick, which logs 22 past performances, lists her as currently touring with roughly 6,461 people tracking her for alerts. No support-act billing is consistently published for these dates; historically she has also appeared as a guest in Cem Adrian's own concerts rather than the reverse.
