Springplank and a seat empty: High Society, Venserpolder's four-man rap label
High Society are four rappers from the Venserpolder estate in Amsterdam-Zuidoost who turned a shared bereavement into a label, two EPs and a sold-out Melkweg headline. One of the four, Cité, was arrested in France in December 2025 over a fatal shooting in Rotterdam, and the crew has carried on playing without him.
Four names from Venserpolder
High Society came together in 2021 in Venserpolder, the estate on the eastern edge of Amsterdam-Zuidoost, as four friends with a shared appetite for rap: Oyster, Cité, Lostt and Nobodypanicc. The push from listening to recording came out of a bereavement. A childhood friend known as Bolle died, and his love of hip-hop is the reason the four have given, consistently, for starting to make it themselves. That dedication is not a footnote bolted on later; it is the first thing said about the group in Dutch listings and write-ups, and nothing in the way they present themselves has moved away from it.
What they built is less common than a straightforward group. High Society operates as a collective and as a record label at the same time, which means the four record together under the crew name and separately under their own, with the same banner over both. Songs turn up credited to HIGH SOCIETY with two or three of the members named alongside, so the line-up on any given track depends on who was in the room that week rather than on a fixed billing order. There is no designated frontman and no designated hype man.
Springplank, and what the records are for
The catalogue is short and sequential. A project called Springbreak came first, the EP Springplank followed in 2024, and Springplank 2 arrived in July 2025. Springplank is the Dutch word for springboard, and the releases are framed in exactly that spirit: a dive into the rap scene rather than a finished statement about it, built to show the chemistry between four rappers passing verses around. Nothing in the run is pitched as a solo thesis, and none of the three projects is long enough to be read as one.
That framing carries through to the credits. Instead of a lead artist with guest features, the tracks tend to put HIGH SOCIETY first and name whichever members appear, which keeps the collective as the headline act and lets each rapper's own releases sit beside the group's rather than compete with them. For a crew that grew out of a friendship rather than a label's A&R plan, it is a practical arrangement: four individual runs continue, and the shared name does the work in the room.
The result is a live draw that runs ahead of the discography. Two short EPs and a loose precursor project have been enough to fill a Melkweg headline and to sell out the premium tier of the next one, which is a long way past where a two-EP crew would normally expect to be standing.
The court pages and the music pages, overlapping
Cité's name appears in Dutch crime reporting as often as in release round-ups, and the sequence is documented. In October 2024 he was acquitted of charges relating to a violent abduction and robbery. That acquittal remains the only court outcome on his record that can be established from published reporting.
On a Wednesday evening in early February 2025 he was shot on a car park in Amsterdam-Zuidoost. Police were called about gunfire at around 21:20, and the wounded man was driven to hospital with several gunshot wounds; his condition was reported as serious but not life-threatening. On 7 February 2025 it was reported that the man was Cité of High Society, named as Jean-Pierre T., then 24, from Venserpolder. Police opened an investigation into the background of the shooting.
On Thursday 5 December 2025 he was arrested in France on suspicion of involvement in a fatal shooting in Rotterdam on 17 November 2025, in which a 59-year-old man died. The Dutch prosecution service said it was working towards his extradition and was examining whether other suspects had been involved. He was, at that point, booked to appear at a sold-out High Society show at Melkweg on 20 December.
Nothing published establishes a conviction in the Rotterdam case, and the profile of the group is not reducible to it. But the overlap is now part of how High Society is read in the Netherlands, and the crew has had to work out how a four-man act plays a headline show as three.
The December show that went ahead
The Melkweg date on 20 December 2025 had sold out before the arrest, and it was not pulled. A photo report published on 23 December 2025, three days after the advertised date, documents High Society at Melkweg, describes the booking as a fairly exclusive one, and summarises what the quartet puts on stage as energy, stories and brotherhood. It is a photo report rather than a review: no running time, no setlist, no verdict on the performance.
That gap in the record says something about the group's standing at the end of 2025. Big enough to sell out a Melkweg room and pull a public broadcaster's photographer into it; not yet established enough for a national outlet to file a written notice on the night.
Back at Melkweg, May 2026
The return was booked for Sunday 17 May 2026 at Melkweg, again promoted as an exclusive show rather than a tour stop. General admission ran at €29.02 plus Melkweg's membership fee; a €69 VIP tier that bundled a meet-and-greet sold out ahead of the date. Doors for meet-and-greet holders opened at 18:00 and general doors at 19:00, with the headline set billed from 21:00 — three hours of building between the first door and the crew taking the stage.
The bill was structured as a scene night rather than a support slot. Melv!ee and 4shobangers opened at 19:00 and came back at 20:30; Highguest, BFL Quatro and Clep'N Fly and Topperig filled 20:00; High Society went on at 21:00 billed as in concert. Five acts before the headline is a crew-and-affiliates format, closer to a label showcase than to a touring band's running order, and it fits a group whose identity is the label as much as the four names on it.
Where things stand now
The public gig record stays thin. Partyflock's artist archive for the collective lists two events in total, the most recent a Friday 17 July 2026 appearance at Pull Up Outdoor in Apeldoorn, and showed nothing further scheduled. There is no announced run, no multi-city routing and no published festival block for the back half of 2026 — what the group has done so far is one-off headline shows, weighted towards Amsterdam, booked around whatever release is current.
That leaves two open questions heading into 2027: whether the Rotterdam case against Cité resolves and in which direction, and whether the Springplank sequence continues. The crew has released a numbered project in each of 2024 and 2025 and has sold out rooms on the strength of them, so the pattern points to a third. Neither has been confirmed in anything published.
The show, now
A High Society night is a label showcase with the crew on last, not a conventional headline-plus-support bill. The template is the Melkweg show of Sunday 17 May 2026: doors at 18:00 for meet-and-greet ticket holders, general doors at 19:00, Melv!ee and 4shobangers opening at 19:00 and returning at 20:30, Highguest, BFL Quatro and Clep'N Fly and Topperig at 20:00, and High Society billed in concert from 21:00 — five acts and three hours of room before the four rappers appear. Tickets were €29.02 general admission plus Melkweg's membership fee, with a €69 VIP tier including the meet-and-greet that sold out before the day; the previous Melkweg headline, on 20 December 2025, sold out in full. The show is promoted as an exclusive one-off rather than a tour stop, and the only published account of a performance — a photo report filed on 23 December 2025 after the December Melkweg date — describes what the quartet puts on stage as energy, stories and brotherhood, and the booking as a fairly exclusive one. No set length, setlist or staging detail has been published, and no full written review of either Melkweg show has appeared; the December date went ahead after Cité's arrest, so the crew has played its biggest rooms as a trio rather than a four.
