One night, one band: how Iberdrola's 125th birthday bought Estopa's only 2026 concert
The Valencia leg of Iberdrola's anniversary music programme is a single sold-out date at Roig Arena on 28 November 2026, built around the only Estopa show scheduled anywhere this year, with Mafalda Cardenal as invited artist.
A corporate birthday that turned into a one-night-only booking
Iberdrola reached 125 years in 2026 and chose to mark it with concerts rather than an advertising push, under the banner "125 años luz". The programme's first and largest date ran in Madrid on 27 June 2026 at Iberdrola Music, the company-branded site in the Villaverde district that covers more than 185,000 square metres, with Lenny Kravitz closing a bill that also carried Manuel Carrasco, Ana Mena, Álvaro de Luna and the DJ Lola Bozzano.
The Valencia edition is the inverse proposition: one indoor room, one headline act, one night. It was announced on 20 May 2026 and places Estopa on the Roig Arena stage on Saturday 28 November 2026, with the singer-songwriter Mafalda Cardenal billed as invited artist. The selling point is scarcity — it is presented as the only Estopa concert anywhere in 2026, a year the duo otherwise left clear.
General sale opened at 10.00 on Monday 25 May 2026 through the Roig Arena site and Iberdrola's anniversary site. The arena's own event page now carries a single word where the buy button was: agotado. Ticket money goes to social projects run by five organisations — the Asociación Española contra el Cáncer, Acción contra el Hambre, Fundación Tu Techo, Betania and Fundación Integra — covering cancer prevention, hunger relief, housing for vulnerable young people, employment for disabled people, and families hit by the DANA floods in Valencia. The same five bodies benefited from the Madrid date.
Why this room
Roig Arena opened on 6 September 2025 after building work that began on 29 June 2020, a €400 million project funded by the Mercadona owner Juan Roig through the company Licampa 1617 and designed by the practices ERRE and HOK. It sits at Carrer del Bomber Ramon Duart 12, east of the city centre, and replaced La Fonteta as Valencia Basket's home.
Its stated capacities are 15,600 seated for basketball, 18,600 for concerts staged at 180 degrees, and 20,000 for shows in the round. The building first filled to its basketball capacity on 13 May 2026, when Valencia Basket met Panathinaikos in the EuroLeague playoffs. It is also down to host matches at the 2028 European Men's Handball Championship.
Iberdrola is a Founding Partner of the arena, which is the straightforward explanation for why a Basque-founded utility's anniversary concert is happening in Valencia rather than Bilbao or Madrid. The company has said a third anniversary music event in Bilbao would follow.
The brothers the night is built on
Estopa are David and José Muñoz, born in 1976 and 1978, raised in Cornellà de Llobregat on the edge of Barcelona by parents from Extremadura. The duo dates itself to 1998, when it won a singer-songwriter competition in Barcelona's Horta-Guinardó district; both brothers were working at the SEAT plant in Martorell at the time, which is where the group's early songwriting mythology comes from.
The self-titled debut arrived on 19 October 1999, went to number one in Spain and sold over 1.2 million copies there, certified eleven times platinum — a figure no Spanish rock debut has matched since. Destrangis followed in 2001 and sold around 570,000 copies in Spain; then ¿La calle es tuya? in 2004, Estopa 2.0 in 2011, Rumba a lo desconocido in October 2015, Fuego, and Estopía on 15 March 2024. Career sales now sit above five million copies.
The sound is Catalan rumba welded to rock and pop guitars, with flamenco phrasing in the vocals — a combination the brothers have always resisted having labelled, and which explains why listings for the Valencia show file it under both Latin and rock. In the United States their singles "El Run Run" and "Cuando Amanece" both topped Billboard's Spanish chart, with "Con La Mano Levanta" peaking at four.
Standing now: medals in 2024, a deliberately empty 2026
2024 was the duo's twenty-fifth anniversary and their most decorated year. Estopía landed in March, and the institutional recognition followed: the Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes, Spain's state arts medal, and an Ondas award for lifetime achievement in music. Earlier Ondas wins and a Latin Grammy nomination sit behind those.
The Gira 25 aniversario carried through 2025 across Spanish cities and the summer festival circuit, including Parc del Fòrum in Sant Adrià de Besòs on 17 May 2025, Playa de Poniente at Torre del Mar on 12 July, the Aeródromo de La Morgal at Llanera on 18 July, Playa de Cullera on 20 July and Arrecife on Lanzarote on 26 July. Logged setlists from that run average two hours and twenty-three minutes.
Then nothing. Rather than extend the anniversary tour into a third year, the brothers took 2026 off and sold the single exception to Iberdrola. That is the fact doing the commercial work here: the Valencia date is not a stop on a tour, it is the whole of Estopa's touring year, and it sold out from a standing start with no supporting campaign beyond the announcement.
The opener
Mafalda Cardenal is 24 and came up through social video rather than the festival circuit, breaking through in 2022 with her first single. "tu fan", released in 2023, reached number one in more than 25 countries and passed 60 million streams. Her debut album Mis Notas de Voz arrived in 2025 with 18 tracks, all written and produced by her.
She is a deliberate contrast rather than a stylistic match: solo, confessional and acoustic-leaning against a rumba-rock duo with a full band, and three decades younger than the headline act. In interviews around the album she has been blunt about the gap between her output and industry polish, framing the songs as diary entries rather than productions.
What the night is shaped like
Doors and stage times are set at 21.15, later than the 17.30 start that the Madrid edition needed for a five-act outdoor bill. There is no festival site, no second stage and no DJ slot: Cardenal plays, then Estopa play, inside a building that will be configured for an end-stage concert rather than in the round.
No review of this show exists yet — it has not happened. What is on record is the shape of an Estopa set as of their last working year: a little over two hours and twenty minutes on the full arena run, openers drawn from the hardest-hitting early material, "Tu calorro" and "El del medio de los chichos" among them, and closes built on "Como Camarón" or "Tragicomedia". Twenty-five years of singles means the problem is subtraction, not programming, and the anniversary sets leaned on Destrangis and the debut while making room for Estopía.
Practical detail from the venue: every attendee needs a ticket from age zero, under-18s are wristbanded for the duration, and parking is at the Mapfre facility under the arena. Transport-and-hotel packages are sold through a third party, which is a reasonable indicator of how much of the audience is travelling in from outside Valencia for a date that cannot be caught anywhere else this year.
The show, now
The Valencia date is a single indoor concert, not a festival day: stage time 21.15 at Roig Arena, Mafalda Cardenal solo first, then Estopa with their band on an end-stage configuration in a room that holds 18,600 for 180-degree concerts. The show has not taken place yet, so there are no reviews of it; the best guide to what lands is the Gira 25 aniversario of 2024–25, where logged setlists averaged two hours and twenty-three minutes, opened on early material such as "Tu calorro" or "El del medio de los chichos", and closed on "Como Camarón" or "Tragicomedia", with Estopía tracks folded into a run dominated by the 1999 debut and Destrangis. Tickets sold out after going on general sale on 25 May 2026, and the venue sells travel-and-hotel packages through a third party, which suggests a substantial share of the crowd is coming from outside Valencia — reasonable, given this is the only Estopa concert scheduled anywhere in 2026. Venue rules: a ticket is required from age zero, under-18s wear wristbands throughout, and parking is in the Mapfre facility at the arena.
