The Livorno DJ who moved the booth into the middle of the floor
Ilario Alicante has spent nearly two decades between Cocoon, Drumcode and his own three labels; in 2025 he started building a format called L/NK that puts him in the crowd rather than above it, and in 2026 he played Ibiza's UNVRS four times.
Livorno, back rooms and a ticket-seller's apprenticeship
Ilario Alicante was born in Livorno in 1988 and played his first sets at the Pachamama Club, a short drive from the city on the Tuscan coast. Billboard Italia records him as the youngest DJ to have debuted at Time Warp, the Mannheim-born festival that also runs a Rotterdam edition, and the Future Artists agency repeats the same claim in its biography.
His route into Ibiza was not a booking. He sold club tickets on the street, worked bars until four in the morning and slept in the back rooms of the places that employed him. He left Italy at 18 and spent years living abroad before settling back in Milan, which is where he is based now. The clubbing apprenticeship is something he returns to in interviews as the thing that taught him how a floor behaves: he describes standing in the middle of a dancefloor as the origin of everything he does behind the decks.
Vacaciones En Chile and the Sven Väth years
The record that opened everything was written in about three hours in his bedroom. Coming back from a season in Ibiza, Alicante made 'Vacaciones En Chile' by imagining what he wanted to hear while standing on the floor at DC10, where Ricardo Villalobos and Luciano were the reference points at the time. It appeared in 2008, drew a remix EP on Tenax Recordings, and bought him his first tour of South America. His first Ibiza booking followed at a Cocoon night at Amnesia, where he was slotted between Villalobos and Marco Carola — a bill he has described as indescribable.
Sven Väth invited him to Frankfurt when he was 20 and became the mentor figure in his account of the career. The lessons Alicante credits are less musical than structural. He has been blunt about the years when he took every booking, drank through his sets and stopped sleeping properly: in the Billboard Italia interview published on 28 April 2025 he said there were moments where he was in a hotel, had to play, and would have preferred someone to slap him. The fix he attributes to Väth was a question about whether he wanted to work for two years or for a lifetime. He now runs at roughly 150 dates a year and takes a month and a half off after New Year.
Three imprints, two different rooms
Alicante's discography sits across other people's techno labels and his own. Cocoon Recordings put out his 'Wax Weapon EP', Soma released 'Zenith' and Drumcode released 'Awakened'. His first label, Deep Moves, was built to put new names into circulation and pulled remixes from Nina Kraviz, Ryan Elliott and Matthew Herbert. In 2016 he set up Virgo alongside the Virgo Transmissions series, and 'The Eye Of Virgo EP' landed there in 2017. 'Utopia', a 2020 EP on Virgo, was made with Dubfire and Kevin de Vries. Virgo opened its 2025 schedule with Adrian Hour's 'C4L3T4'.
The newer imprint is Sound D'Elite, which launched on 9 February 2024 with 'Wish Star', a three-track EP by the Italian producer Joe Vanditti. Alicante framed it as the housier counterweight to Virgo rather than a replacement — a groovier and more house-leaning side of what he plays, with the two catalogues running in parallel. Through 2026 the label has premiered Rafa Barrios in May and Kidoo in June, and on 30 October 2026 it released ATLAC's two-track 'Little Closer'. The booking policy on both labels is deliberate: he signs emerging producers rather than trading on established names.
His own most recent studio credit is 'Patched Up', a collaboration with La La issued by Nervous Records on 25 July 2025.
L/NK: the format he built to stop playing at people
The project Alicante has invested most in recently is L/NK, an audiovisual format whose premise is that the stage and the dancefloor should be the same surface. He launched it on 30 April 2025 at the Ex Macello in Milan, with Cloonee, Joe Vanditti and II Faces on the bill. His explanation of the concept was practical rather than philosophical: he said he can play the world's best club, but if he is alone at the console in a sterile, cold, distant environment, he does not perform at 100%.
L/NK came back on 1 May 2026 to open the Vision Open Air season at the Ex Macello, a daytime format running from 5pm to midnight, with White Off, Michele Arcieri and the English artist Max Dean also playing. The 2026 run was announced as the third and final Vision Open Air season at that site. One detail from the format is telling about his attitude to phones: rather than policing them, the full set is recorded and handed back to the people who were there. He has also held a Christmas Day slot at Amnesia Milano for about a decade.
Asked to name the rooms that matter most to him, he lists Cocoricò, where he grew up as a clubber and an artist, Amnesia Ibiza, and Space Miami.
Where he stands in November 2026
Ibiza was the spine of his 2026. He played the new UNVRS venue four times across the season: for elrow on 13 June and 12 September, on Carl Cox's residency night on 9 August, and at the elrow closing party on 3 October. He also appeared repeatedly at Pacha Ibiza, most recently on 9 October 2026.
Miami has become the other anchor. He played Club Space on 21 February 2026, a set the club posted in full, and returned for Miami Music Week, where EDMTunes' review of 3 April 2026 placed him back to back with Franky Rizardo during the Space closing marathon that ran from Sunday night through to Tuesday morning — more than thirty hours of continuous programming. The rest of the year has been standard circuit work: Fabrik in Madrid on 5 September 2026 and LAB11 in Digbeth on 11 September 2026.
As of the start of November 2026 the diary reads Pacha New York on 6 November, a Music On night in São Paulo on 7 November, and The Penthouse at Five Palm Jumeirah in Dubai on 21 November. Songkick lists 6,568 people tracking him for alerts, which is a reasonable marker of where he sits: a reliable headline booking on big-room house and techno bills rather than a name that sells a room on its own.
The set, in practice
Alicante is an all-digital DJ. He collected vinyl and has stopped using turntables, partly because few venues support them properly and partly because the way he mixes needs more flexibility than records allow. He has said he does not like to fossilise himself on a single genre, ever, and the recorded evidence bears that out — the Space Miami set from February 2026 moves between house and techno and includes material from Chico Rose, Andy Compton, Matteo Dentone, John Summit and Gigi D'Agostino inside the same two hours.
He also makes a point of valuing the slots most headliners refuse. He likes long sets and he defends warm-up work as the part of the night that decides what the rest of it can be. His stated preference is the club over the festival, on the grounds that a smaller room gives him more room to be specific.
The show, now
A current Alicante booking is usually a two-hour club slot rather than a production show: the set Club Space posted from 21 February 2026 runs roughly two hours across 27 tracks, opens on 'Take Our Time' and closes on Josh Kalker's 'Toma', and tracks a house-leaning peak-time arc that takes in Chico Rose, Andy Compton, Matteo Dentone, John Summit and Gigi D'Agostino without settling into one tempo. In Ibiza through 2026 he worked inside other people's staging — three elrow nights at UNVRS on 13 June, 12 September and the 3 October closing party, plus Carl Cox's residency there on 9 August — so the visual language on those nights is the promoter's, not his. He plays entirely digitally, having abandoned turntables, and says he prefers clubs to festivals and actively likes long sets and warm-up slots, which is why his name often appears on marathon bills: at Miami Music Week 2026 he went back to back with Franky Rizardo during the Club Space closing party that ran from Sunday night to Tuesday morning. The exception is L/NK, his own format, where the console is placed in the middle of the floor so the stage and the dancefloor merge, and the entire set is recorded and shared afterwards so nobody needs to film it. Recent supporting bills have been built from his own label roster and local names rather than touring openers — Joe Vanditti, White Off, Michele Arcieri and Max Dean at the Milan editions.
