Patrick Bruyndonx spent years ghostwriting in Antwerp. Then Lee Burridge got on a train.
Lost Desert is the Belgian producer at the centre of All Day I Dream's organic house output, back on the label in 2026 with the Drift EP after open-heart surgery reshaped how he works. In November he plays the party's first Australian dates in over a decade.
A café in Antwerp, 1991
Patrick Bruyndonx took his first DJ booking in 1991, in a very small café in Antwerp on a Monday night — the sort of slot that exists because somebody has to fill it. Three decades of production followed, much of it invisible. Before the Lost Desert name meant anything outside Belgium he was ghostwriting for other people, working alone and fairly sure he had missed the wave as an artist in his own right.
The turn came through Lee Burridge. Burridge was at an event in Belgium where Lost Desert was warming up the room, heard the set, and essentially invited himself into the studio. "I took the train from London and went to the studio and we started making music," is how Burridge described it. The visit became a partnership, and the partnership became a permanent berth on All Day I Dream, the label and daytime party series Burridge had started on a Brooklyn rooftop in 2011.
The sound he brought with him was assembled from travel rather than from record-shop genre convention — field recordings and ambient texture gathered on the road, folded into house tracks that run long and lean on melody. His own label, Souksonic, handles the material that sits outside the All Day I Dream remit.
Melt, and the catalogue that grew around it
Melt, released on 19 July 2019, was the record that fixed his position. Credited to Lee Burridge and Lost Desert, it was Burridge's debut full-length after decades of DJing: ten tracks across 67 minutes, with the Congolese vocalist Junior singing in Lingala on "Lingala" and "Mibale". Burridge framed the point of it without much decoration — "it's passion, it's honesty, it's truth and hopefully other people will find that in themselves." Data Transmission's Gus Fraser gave it 9/10, calling it a journey of emotions with real depth and praising it as the return of a dying art, the album meant to be played start to finish. The two began work on a second album as soon as the first was finished.
The Lost Desert & Friends EPs accumulated rather than being planned. "It came together very organically; I had no intention of making it an EP series at first," he said of the run. The third instalment, in 2023, paired him with Burridge on "My Time with You", Junior again on "Mwinda", and Madraas and Sofiya Nzau on "Dwokire", alongside "Liebe Dich".
Solo, the clearest statement before this year was the Saudade EP, out on All Day I Dream in February 2025: four tracks over roughly half an hour, including a Volen Sentir remix of "When Sun Rises".
Open-heart surgery, and a shorter working day
In late 2022 he had emergency open-heart surgery. Doctors found the problem just in time; he narrowly avoided a heart attack. Rehabilitation took three months, and the return to the studio was rationed — an hour a day at first, building back up. The fourteen-hour sessions he had worked for years stopped, because it was obvious they could not continue. His wife and children carried him through it.
He has not dramatised any of this. "Music is my first love, always has been. It will continue to stay this way because I'll be very unhappy if I cannot keep creating," he said in July 2023, adding that he now enjoys the simple things more — cycling, rounds of golf.
The working philosophy that came out of it is unromantic about inspiration. Talking around Saudade in February 2025 he borrowed Rick Rubin's framing from The Creative Act to argue that creative output moves in cycles and that there are no mountains without valleys, so a block is a cue to stop rather than to grind. He also described the craft as a game with levels: making music should be as fun as playing PlayStation, and it takes time to get through all of them. He still works through production tutorials, still collaborates to learn, and says plainly that nobody is too old to learn.
2026: Drift, an AI vocal, and a complaint about the job
He reappeared on All Day I Dream's A Winter Sampler VII on 27 March 2026, a twelve-track collection built around patience and understated movement, contributing "Be As One" with Hermanez and the vocalist Tasha, alongside Burridge, Sunora and Rove.
The Drift EP followed on 30 June 2026, four tracks on the same label: "Drift A Little Longer" with vocals from Aiola, the rolling eight-minute "Aalam Waahid" — One World — and "Shooting Stars" with Paul Ross, backed with a beatless dream mix. He has since said the title track's vocal is AI-generated, which he treats as a line crossed rather than a gimmick. The studio behind it is Logic Pro plus a hardware collection weighted towards Junos, a Prophet-6 and a Moog One, with further material due on Balance and the Magnifik imprint.
Interviewed on 8 April 2026, he was blunter about the state of the job than about his own records. The DJs of his era, he said, were the shy ones who did it for the love of music; newer arrivals are closer to fashion models making videos for social platforms than to entertainers, and the record-shop culture where DJs stood around arguing about tracks has gone. Guest lists, he noted drily, have not changed at all — people still want in free without caring who is playing. What has changed in him is the relationship with the room: he says he now values the connection with people who bought a ticket over his own concentration on the mix.
Standing now: three dates, all in Australia
All Day I Dream's 2026 calendar ran through London, Ibiza, Mexico City, San Francisco, Barcelona and Brooklyn. The Brooklyn edition on 19 September 2026, at Industry City, was Burridge alone for eight hours open to close with no support, deliberately stripping the format back to the earliest New York parties, when he played the whole day himself.
Australia is the end of the year's work and the first All Day I Dream run there in more than a decade. Lost Desert plays all three: Beach Hotel in Byron Bay on Friday 20 November 2026, The Ivy in Sydney on Saturday 28 November, and Bourke Street Courtyard in Melbourne on Sunday 29 November, on a bill with Burridge and Double Touch at each. Tickets are through alldayidream.com and set times are being announced closer to each date.
Those three are, for now, his entire confirmed diary — Songkick lists them as his only upcoming shows against some sixty past events and around 4,600 people tracking him for alerts. His most recent North American appearance was in Brooklyn.
The show, now
The show is an All Day I Dream party, which means an outdoor daytime event rather than a club night: melodic, unhurried house played as the afternoon heat softens and into golden hour, under the series' blue-and-white décor, with a crowd that habitually sits down between sets. The November 2026 Australian dates put Lost Desert on a three-DJ bill with label founder Lee Burridge and Double Touch at Beach Hotel in Byron Bay on 20 November, The Ivy in Sydney on 28 November and Bourke Street Courtyard in Melbourne on 29 November — the first All Day I Dream events in Australia in over ten years. Individual set times had not been published as of early November and are being released closer to each date, so the shape of his slot is unconfirmed, though the series runs long: Burridge played eight hours open to close, alone, at the Brooklyn edition at Industry City on 19 September 2026. Expect current material to sit at the centre of it — the Drift EP's "Drift A Little Longer", "Aalam Waahid" and "Shooting Stars", and "Be As One" from A Winter Sampler VII. The parties have a reputation for emotive production and immersive stage design, and a following that treats them as community rather than concert; Lost Desert himself now describes the crowd, not the mixer, as the thing he is paying attention to. Tickets for all three dates are sold through alldayidream.com.
