Masego After the Fire: Fix Your Face and the Longest Tour of His Career

Micah Davis, the Jamaican-born, Virginia-raised saxophonist who named his own genre TrapHouseJazz, has returned with a third album written after his Los Angeles home burned in January 2025, and is midway through a 40-plus-date headline run that reaches Bristol, Manchester and London in October 2026.

A church kid with a saxophone and a drum machine

Masego was born Micah Davis in Kingston, Jamaica, on 8 June 1993, to a Jamaican father serving in the United States Air Force and an African-American mother who ran her own business. Both parents were pastors, and the household was non-denominational Christian, which matters for everything that followed: the drums he taught himself without lessons were church drums, and the piano and saxophone he later studied were learned in that same setting. The family lived in Virginia and in Sumter, South Carolina, and he went to Woodside High School in Newport News before enrolling at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, which he left to pursue music full-time.

The stage name arrived in high school. Masego is a Setswana rendering of his church name, Blessing, and the first mixtape he put out, in January 2013, was called exactly that. Three more followed inside two years, ending with Traphouse Jazz in December 2014, the title that became his shorthand for what he does: musicianship learned in church, run through trap drums and a record collection of more than 200 jazz and soul LPs. He has named the gospel musician John P. Kee, Andre 3000 and Cab Calloway among the people he was listening to when the sound took shape.

Tadow, Lady Lady and a Grammy nomination

The first release to travel beyond his own circle was The Pink Polo EP with the producer Medasin in April 2015, followed by the Loose Thoughts EP in July 2016. Then came the accident that made him. In 2017 he met the French producer FKJ and, almost immediately, the two improvised a track on camera. That recording, Tadow, went on to be certified Platinum by the RIAA and three times Platinum in New Zealand, and it remains the song most people in a room can sing back to him.

His debut album, Lady Lady, arrived on 7 September 2018, followed by the Studying Abroad EP on 13 November 2020. The expanded version of that record, Studying Abroad: Extended Stay, released on 21 May 2021, earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Progressive R&B Album at the 2022 awards. A self-titled second album came out on 3 March 2023, and the headline touring around it was, until this summer, the last time he had taken a full production on the road. Throughout, his records have come out through his own EQT Recordings imprint in partnership with Capitol Records and Universal.

The fire, and an album built from 150 songs

In January 2025, the wildfires that swept through Los Angeles destroyed Masego's home. The third album, Fix Your Face, released on 17 July 2026 on EQT Recordings and Capitol, is the record he made in the aftermath. It is 16 tracks and 49 minutes long, co-produced with Jordan Elgie, and was whittled down over nearly three years from a pool of more than 150 songs. He has described changing his method for this one, writing ideas down deliberately rather than relying on the freestyled approach that produced Tadow.

The title is a phrase from a maternal figure, an instruction to tighten up and stop the tears, and that voice frames the record. It opens with Sounds Like..., which revisits the head injury that pushed a teenage basketball player towards music, and closes with a voice message on a track called Charlie Brown. In between are the songs that have been drawing the most attention: Someone, a duet with Keyshia Cole about a relationship under strain; Breathe, which sets grief against gospel voices and strings; Heaven, which reworks a gospel sample into something far less sacred; Symone, about infidelity; and Gone. Leon Thomas appears on QVC, the dancehall veteran Buju Banton on Hello, and Musiq Soulchild elsewhere on the tracklist. Masego has said he studied Mary J. Blige, D'Angelo and Kirk Franklin while making it, and he trailed the album through 2025 with the singles I Win, Unhinged and Spin The Block.

Where he stands in September 2026

The album has landed as the most personal thing he has released, and the early critical response has been broadly warm with some reservations about consistency. Ratings Game Music, reviewing it on 16 July 2026, gave it a C-plus overall while calling the record beautifully crafted and thoughtfully cohesive, singling out Someone for a phenomenal Keyshia Cole performance, praising the chemistry with Leon Thomas on QVC, and describing Gone as one of the most heartbreaking songs on the album. The same review made a point of his willingness to be vulnerable without sacrificing confidence, which is a fair summary of the shift from the flirtatious persona of Lady Lady to the man on this record.

Commercially and logistically, the bigger news is the tour. Announced on 10 June 2026, with an artist presale the day before and general sale on 12 June, the Fix Your Face tour is his first major headline run in nearly three years and runs to more than 40 dates across North America, the United Kingdom and Europe, produced by Live Nation. It has already passed through Massey Hall in Toronto on 29 August and the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on 2 September, with the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on 16 September closing the North American leg. Radio City Music Hall in New York and The O2 in London are the two largest rooms on the routing, and both are a step up in scale from anything he headlined around the 2023 album.

The show: 80 minutes, a saxophone and a drum solo

The 2026 set is built around the new record rather than the hits. At Iron City in Birmingham, Alabama, on 11 August 2026, doors opened at 6pm and Masego played from 7.45pm to 9.05pm, an 80-minute headline set that opened with an Intro and then ran Wonderwoman, Limerence, Heaven, Good & Plenty, Someone, Navajo, Breathe, Gone, Dotted Line, Unhinged and Recommend before the closing stretch. The Nashville show on 2 September followed the same spine and added Mystery Lady, so the older material is there, but it arrives late and as a reward. Compare that with his festival sets in summer 2025, such as the Zorlu Center in Istanbul on 6 August 2025, which leaned on Navajo, Queen Tings, Lady Lady, Mystery Lady, Black Anime and Yamz, and the change in emphasis is obvious.

According to the tour guide published by Ones To Watch on 9 September 2026, headline sets are running between 75 and 90 minutes, and the full evening with support and changeovers comes to around two and a half hours. The singer-songwriter Lekan has been opening across multiple North American dates with a 30-minute set. Masego works the stage as a multi-instrumentalist, moving between saxophone, keys and the microphone, there is a drum solo midway through the set, and the shows have been closing with an encore. Support for the European and UK leg had not been named in the announcement.

That leg begins on 28 September 2026 and runs through Milan, Zurich, Berlin, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Cologne, two nights in Amsterdam, Paris and Brussels before crossing the Channel: Bristol Beacon on 13 October, the O2 Apollo in Manchester on 15 October and The O2 in London on 18 October. The London date is the largest room he has ever headlined in Britain, roughly a year after his last appearance in the city at the Jazz Cafe Festival in Burgess Park on 3 August 2025.

The show, now

The Fix Your Face tour is a headline set of roughly 75 to 90 minutes with an encore, led by the new album: at Iron City in Birmingham, Alabama, on 11 August 2026 he played 80 minutes, opening with Wonderwoman and Limerence and running through Heaven, Someone, Navajo, Breathe, Gone, Dotted Line and Unhinged before the older songs, with Mystery Lady added by the Nashville show on 2 September. Masego switches between saxophone, keys and vocals with a live band, there is a drum solo mid-set, and on the North American leg Lekan opens with a 30-minute set, making the whole evening around two and a half hours. The European and UK leg runs from 28 September to 18 October 2026, finishing at Bristol Beacon, the O2 Apollo in Manchester and The O2 in London, the biggest British room he has headlined.
