Maxi Meraki

A slow accumulation, not a breakout

Maxim Defrancq put out his first record as Maxi Meraki in 2019. In a scene that tends to reward teenage bedroom producers, that is a late start, and what followed was not a single breakout track but a seven-year accumulation: releases placed on other people's labels, remixes for acts several rungs above him, and enough club work to make the bookings self-sustaining. Insomniac's artist profile makes the same point without embellishment, crediting the rise since 2019 to a run of releases, collaborations and performances rather than one moment.

He is, on his own account, an unlikely fit for the job. Speaking to Gray Area, he described himself as "quite calm and introverted when I'm not on stage", named cooking and cycling as the things that keep him level, and identified perfectionism as his main obstacle. He holds a bachelor's degree in International Business. He also offered three words for his own music — energetic, hypnotic, emotional — which is more useful than most artist copy, because all three are audible in the records.

The sound sits where melodic house meets something harder underneath. EDM Sauce, writing in September 2026, placed him in the space where house music's accessibility runs into techno's production standards, which is a fair description of a catalogue that keeps the tunes but rarely softens the drums.

The records, and the labels that took them

The early catalogue moved between imprints rather than settling. Mixmag Italy lists Spinnin' Deep, Monaberry and Artbat's UPPERGROUND among the labels that carried his work after 2019; Gray Area adds Diynamic and Higher Ground. That spread matters more than any one release, because each of those labels serves a slightly different room, and the bookings that followed reflect it.

Insomniac singles out "Dare Your Move" as the point where the production changed, alongside "If You Need It", "Everybody Get Up" and "Nothing On Me". The remix work has been the other half of the profile: RÜFÜS DU SOL's "Music Is Better" and Mahmut Orhan's "Pangea", plus reworks for WhoMadeWho and Monolink. Remixing acts of that size is how a producer gets played by people who have never heard of him, and it worked — Gray Area reports support from Solomun, Adriatique and Black Coffee, while Mixmag Italy names Jamie Jones and Pete Tong.

The largest-label moment so far came on 6 June 2025, when Ultra Records released the single "What You Do To Me". Mixmag Italy described it as built on heavy, rubbery drums and an impassioned vocal, with synths rising through the groove — a fairly literal account of the formula he has been refining since.

Radiate, and the run of 2026

The more consequential development is that he stopped relying on other people's imprints. RADIATE Records is his own label, and in 2026 it has carried the bulk of his output. The spring single "Tik Tak" came first, then the "What I Please" EP in June, then "I'm Not Like You" in August, a collaboration with the New Jersey production duo Olive Oil. EDM Sauce, covering the last of these on 8 September 2026, counted it as his third significant release in under five months and argued that RADIATE reads as a working outlet rather than a vanity imprint.

The label has also been absorbing other people's records. A separate 2026 release, "Everybody", came out through Radiate with Alexey Union and Kinky Sound. Three releases in five months from an artist who was, until recently, a guest on other rosters is a meaningful change in how the operation works: the release schedule is now his to set, and it is being set at a pace that keeps him in front of the Beatport buyers between bookings.

Where he stands in September 2026

The summer just finished was the clearest measure of his standing. On 11 June 2026 he played the Pacha ICONS Solomun Outdoors opening party at Destino Five Ibiza, a 17:00–23:00 daytime bill shared with Solomun and HAAi. On 8 July he played Chinois Ibiza on a 23:30–06:00 night headed by Mahmut Orhan, whose "Pangea" he had remixed. On 31 August he closed the island run in the club room at Hï Ibiza, on the All I Need stage for Francis Mercier presents Solèy, alongside Andrea Oliva, THEMBA, Awen, Sistek b2b Raul Vidal and &Friends. Three Ibiza bookings across three different rooms, none of them as the headline name, is a precise picture of where he sits: on the bill everywhere, carrying the room rather than selling it.

The festival record behind that includes Tomorrowland and Amsterdam Dance Event, per Mixmag Italy. Asked by Gray Area for his favourite city to play, he named Buenos Aires.

As of 23 September 2026 the Songkick calendar lists seven upcoming dates across six countries. He plays On the Hiyu at Lake Union Park in Seattle on 26 September, then The Penthouse at Five Palm Jumeirah in Dubai on 3 October and the Casa Bacardi festival in Dehradun, India, the following night. Club Space in Miami follows on 9 October, Zelus in Athens on 16 October, Volt in Milan on 23 October, and One Marylebone in London on Halloween. The routing — Seattle to Dubai to India inside eight days — is the schedule of an artist whose fee now justifies the flights.

What the set is

He has been explicit about the shape he wants. Gray Area asked about set length and he said he prefers two to three hours or more, because that is the span in which a set can be built as a narrative rather than a sequence of peaks. He selects for tracks with strong groove and emotional tension that develop gradually instead of detonating on the first drop, which is a workable description of the difference between a festival slot and a club set — and his 2026 diary is weighted towards the latter.

The bookings bear that out. Club Space in Miami and Volt in Milan are rooms that run long; the Chinois Ibiza night he played in July ran from 23:30 to 06:00. The Destino opening party in June was the opposite case — an outdoor daytime bill finishing at 23:00, with Solomun playing the same stage. He is generally billed within a line-up rather than announced as a solo headline show, so what precedes and follows him changes considerably from date to date, and the London date at One Marylebone on 31 October falls on Halloween.

No published reviews of the 2026 shows were found in this research, so what the room makes of a given night is not something that can be reported here from evidence.
