Mietze Conte

A cat, a duke, and a studio in Vienna

Mietze Conte began in 2022 with a track called bunnybunnybunny and an EP called Nervous, and with a name that arrived before the music had settled into a shape. The account he gives is that he was freestyling in the studio making animal noises, that a meow turned into Mietze — Austrian for a small cat — and that Conte, Italian for duke, got stuck on the end of it. By then he had been making music for well over a decade. He started at ten, first in metal bands and then in drum and bass, and has described the point of this project as getting away from being cerebral about any of it. The two names he reaches for as influences are Björk and Bobby McFerrin, both for what they do with a voice rather than with a machine. He sings on his own tracks rather than leaning on other people's vocals, and the message he says he wants an audience to take away is that it is fine to be weird.

A discography built in short bursts

Two EPs followed in 2023 — Under my Bed and dreaming of your latte art — each of which pulled streams into the millions and established the method: fast, compressed, sung, closer to pop than to club functionalism.

2024 produced three records rather than one. Mietzee was the debut album proper. ee oo was an ambient set that sits at an angle to everything else in the catalogue. Hobby's was made with Otto Benson. A single, knows, arrived in 2025 and leaned further towards indie electronic than the dance-pop around it.

The current record is wufwufwuf, released on 6 March 2026 under exclusive licence to Common Knowledge. Ten tracks across twenty-one minutes means an average song of barely two minutes, which is the clearest statement of intent available without reading an interview. The video single is the title track, with Ziggy Pop. Guest work has run both ways across the catalogue — No Nein with 1tbsp, DING DONG with Yung Hurn — and both have survived into the live set.

The live act was built city by city

The first Mietze Conte show happened in Tokyo in 2023, more than a year after the first release, which is an unusual order of operations even for a producer-led project. 2024 was the year the touring caught up with the streaming numbers: sold-out Australian dates, a run through Europe and the UK, and a first show in Seoul.

The New York debut came at Market Hotel in September 2024, and it is the show that opened up the American side of the schedule. Around the end of that year he also put together a mix, Change of the Seasons, for Apple Music with Office Magazine.

What that decade of touring has produced is a live show that does not behave like a DJ booking, even when it is sold as one. He sings over his own material, and he treats the stereotype of the DJ as something to be undercut rather than occupied.

Where the tour actually is, September 2026

The album tour started in March 2026 and worked through the UK and Europe before North American dates in May. The most recent shows were in the United States: Austin on 10 September, at 29th Street Ballroom as part of Acopia, then Boiler Room in Washington DC on 12 September.

Australia comes next, three dates in five days at the start of October — the Lansdowne Hotel in Sydney on 5 October, Thornbury Theatre on 8 October and The Rechabite in Perth on 9 October.

Then the long European stretch. Gorilla in Manchester on 30 October and La Maroquinerie in Paris on 31 October; Hole 44 in Berlin on 5 November, Klub Mechanik in Warsaw on 6 November and Simple Things in Bristol on 7 November; then Garagen in Cologne on 19 November, Le Botanique in Brussels on 20 November and EartH in London on 21 November, before Wigwam in Dublin on 26 November and SWG3 in Glasgow on 27 November closes it. Thirteen dates were listed as upcoming as of mid-September, across seven countries.

The Manchester booking is the one that shows the trajectory. He played the Pink Room at YES in April; he returns to the same city inside seven months at Gorilla, on a routing that now puts London at EartH and Glasgow at SWG3 rather than in the small rooms the 2024 European run used.

What the show does to a room

The most detailed recent account of a Mietze Conte set is The Mancunion's review of the YES Pink Room show, published on 18 April 2026. He went on just before 2am, after three support acts — Friedrich Freistil, Staatsanzeiger and nuum — and played for around two hours.

The set moved between his own catalogue and material with no business being there: DING DONG with Yung Hurn, the dreaming of your latte art track with 1tbsp, No Nein and nanana, alongside the Mortal Kombat theme and a Crazy Frog remix. bunnybunnybunny, the track the whole project started with in 2022, was played three times. He spent a good share of the night away from the decks, singing directly at the front rows, and finished in a bunny-ear hat.

The reviewer's summary was that the set confirmed him as one of the best electronic artists working at the moment, and the detail that carried the piece was not the music but the room: a crowd watching rather than filming, a noticeable number of people wearing matching bunny ears, and what the review called a real sense of community. The one reservation was reserved for a support act, nuum, which the reviewer found out of place on the bill.
