Naked On Palmtrees: a Frankfurt four-piece finally puts its first record on the table
Five years after forming in a Frankfurt rehearsal room, the crossover-rock quartet Naked On Palmtrees are about to release their debut EP, Root Island, with a release show at the city's Elfer Music Club on 2 October 2026. This is a band that has done everything itself, from the recordings to the videos, and is only now stepping out of the local support-slot circuit.
Four people and a rehearsal room
Naked On Palmtrees began in March 2021 in Frankfurt am Main, and the story of the band since then is mostly a story of patience. The venue Altes E-Werk in Nierstein, which booked them, names the line-up in full: Moritz Riffel on vocals, Immanuel Elzer on guitar, Christian Wollgarten on bass and Raghavendran Krishnamoorthy on drums. On their own channels and in the German rock press they go by first names and nicknames, Moritz, Immi, Chris and Raghav, with Moritz also playing guitar and Chris adding backing vocals.
The band profile that Hellfire Magazin ran on 5 September 2025 lays out the timeline. The four-piece was founded in 2021 but did not settle on its final line-up until the end of 2023. The year 2024 was, in the band's own framing, an experimental demo phase with single releases, a first music video and a first run of live shows. Only in 2025 did they say they had arrived at a single shared musical concept.
What that concept is has been described in nearly the same words by every venue and magazine that has written about them. The group takes the familiar structures of early-2000s alternative rock and metal and runs them through funk, progressive rock, reggae, nu metal and post-hardcore. The Nierstein venue's version of the biography reaches further back, to 1990s alternative rock, and adds rap and blues to the mix, built on distinctive guitar and bass riffs and what it calls a recognisable voice. The band's shorthand for all of this is crossover rock.
The singles, in order
The band's official site lists four releases, all singles. The first, Echoes, came out in August 2024. That fits the Nierstein venue's 2024 description of the group, which at the time said a single was expected in spring 2024 and that final recordings for a studio album were planned for the summer.
The real starting gun was Even When, released on 5 September 2025. Frontstage Magazine covered it the same day and described it as the band's first English-language track and a deliberate move towards a heavier sound. The song, in that account, begins with verses and a chorus that run leisurely but catchy, then turns into a whirlwind of guitar solos, breakdown passages and heavy hooklines. Lyrically it is about finding something positive in relationships and in life during hard periods. The video was shot in the band's own rehearsal space, and Frontstage made a point of the fact that none of it was done with a big budget, a professional video company or a label behind it.
Hellfire Magazin's profile from the same day added the plan: the band was working on its first official studio album, one that would combine nu metal and metalcore elements while keeping the funk-rock influences of the earlier tracks. Two more singles followed. MANNerISM arrived on 7 February 2026, and F.A.I.L. on 29 May 2026. The band's site describes F.A.I.L. as an anthem dedicated to the perceived inadequacies of the human condition, and the site also carries the group's own statement of intent, that it wants to create something unique and powerful without the backup of a big budget.
Root Island and where things stand now
As of September 2026 the promised full album has become a debut EP. The Ticketmaster listing for the band's next show bills it as an EP release party at the Elfer Music Club in Frankfurt am Main on 2 October 2026, starting at 19:00, and says the record, titled Root Island, is released the same day. The listing's own description of the sound sharpens the earlier biographies: a continuation of the best of the 1990s and 2000s, alternative metal with a large helping of grunge, nu and progressive.
A video on the band's YouTube channel titled Root Island // Awakening // Eisbär suggests at least three of the tracks the EP will carry, though the band has not published a track list anywhere that could be checked. Nor is there a label. Every source that mentions the question, from Frontstage in 2025 to the band's own site in 2026, describes an act releasing its own music and making its own videos.
The one other 2026 date on the record is a show at Schön Schön in Mainz on 19 June 2026, which the band's site listed as an upcoming performance. The band's live footprint remains the Rhine-Main region: Frankfurt, Mainz, Wiesbaden and the small towns between them.
On stage so far
The most notable live credit came by accident. On 3 October 2024 the Texan band Scorpion Child played the Kesselhaus room at Schlachthof Wiesbaden, and the billed support, Bask from North Carolina, had to cancel after hurricane damage at home. Naked On Palmtrees stepped in at short notice. The Schlachthof's page for the night, which had doors at 19:30 and the show at 20:00 with tickets at 20 euros on the door, described the Frankfurt group's contribution as lowered-suspension vintage rock and a stylistic match for the headliner's classic-rock leanings.
The more typical night is the one the Kreativfabrik in Wiesbaden put on for 18 July 2025. Naked On Palmtrees shared a three-band bill with Palebloom, a female-fronted post-hardcore group from Cologne, and Blue Collar Punks, a melodic punk trio from Mainz. Doors were at 20:00, the music started at 20:30 and finished by 23:00, and entry was pay-what-you-wish between 12 and 15 euros at the door. The Nierstein venue page, meanwhile, quotes the band's own aim for its concerts: an intimate setting where the audience can connect personally with the material.
What the public record does not contain is as important as what it does. No published review of a Naked On Palmtrees show could be found, no setlist has been posted, and the band has not stated how long it plays. Hellfire's profile notes only that the first live shows happened in 2024 and that more were planned. Anyone weighing a ticket for the Elfer date is buying on the strength of the singles and the videos, not on a track record of reviewed performances.
Why the release show matters
For a band that spent its first three years finding its line-up and its next two finding its sound, 2 October 2026 is the first time Naked On Palmtrees will headline a Frankfurt club on the back of a record of their own. The three most recent singles, from September 2025 to May 2026, show a group that has moved from funk-tinged alternative rock towards something heavier and more metal-adjacent, and the EP listing's language, grunge and nu and progressive, matches that direction.
It remains a small operation. Two regional magazines, a handful of venue pages and the band's own site are the whole of the paper trail. But the trail is consistent about what this is: four people from the Frankfurt and Mainz area, working without a label or a budget, who have now put enough songs together to call it a debut. Root Island will show whether the last year of singles was the sound of a band arriving or a band still on its way.
The show, now
Naked On Palmtrees' next show is an EP release party for Root Island at the Elfer Music Club in Frankfurt am Main on 2 October 2026, doors at 19:00, following a date at Schön Schön in Mainz on 19 June 2026. Their gigs to date have been Rhine-Main club nights: a short-notice support slot for Scorpion Child in the Kesselhaus at Schlachthof Wiesbaden on 3 October 2024, and a three-band, pay-what-you-wish bill with Palebloom and Blue Collar Punks at the Kreativfabrik in Wiesbaden on 18 July 2025, where the music ran from 20:30 to 23:00. The band describes its aim as intimate concerts where the audience connects personally with the songs, and the recent singles point to a heavier, more metal-leaning set than the funk-flavoured early material. No set length, setlist or published review of a show could be verified, and no support act for the Elfer date has been announced.
