Somehow It Flies: how a Paris trio turned a Men I Trust rework into a 19-track Defected album

Oden & Fatzo came out of the Paris underground with an edit that outgrew them, signed to Defected, and on 16 October 2026 released a debut album made with 19 collaborators — then took the thing on the road as a band.

Three people, two names

The billing is misleading in a useful way. Oden & Fatzo is not a pair but a trio: the Parisian duo Oden joined to the producer Fatzo, a configuration that Gray Area's artist profile describes as having come out of the city's underground before anything international happened. The shared reference points are broader than the house tag suggests — funk, jazz and hip hop sit underneath the uptempo minimal and UK garage that turn up in their sets, and the project has always leaned on real playing rather than purely on sequencers.

The early catalogue reflects a group working through small labels rather than a plan. Records landed on MicroHertz, Increase The Groove, Salty Nuts, Swerve Digital and Pitch Records, the last of those carrying 'Denver In The Sky' in 2021. 'Marvel House', made with Thurman, followed on an EP of the same name in 2022, and 'Fast Life' came from the From da Split #1 EP. None of it was built for streaming playlists; it was functional club material circulating among people who already knew the names.

The rework that outgrew the group

The turn came with a house rework of Men I Trust's 'Lauren', retitled 'Lauren (I Can't Stay Forever)', which Gray Area dates to 2021 as the point where the audience stopped being French. The track has since passed 80 million Spotify streams on Gray Area's count, and it drew remixes from Claptone and Jamie Roy — the usual sign that a bootleg-shaped idea has been absorbed into the commercial house economy.

A Boiler Room set at FLY Open Air in 2022 did the second half of the work, putting the group in front of an audience that had heard the record without knowing who made it. By the time Gray Area wrote them up as one of the more interesting new acts in Paris, they were roughly four years into the project and still being described as up-and-coming.

Defected, and the vocal singles

The relationship with Defected began in 2023 with 'Lady Love', featuring Camden Cox. Defected's own album announcement puts that record beyond 120 million streams. A RAW EP with THEOS followed, then 'Tell Me What You Want' with Poppy Baskcomb in 2024, which the label now cites at more than 165 million streams. The pattern was consistent: a topline singer, a filtered French-touch bassline, and an arrangement that works at 2am and on a radio edit without being rewritten twice.

2024 was also the year the live diary caught up. Gray Area lists a remix of David Guetta and Kungs' 'All Night Long' alongside appearances at Cercle, EDC Las Vegas, Electric Forest and Wembley Arena. That summer they played Defected's Tuesday residency at Ushuaïa Ibiza, a set from 16 July 2024 that the club later released as a DJ mix.

An album they were advised not to make

'Somehow It Flies' arrived on Defected on 16 October 2026: a debut, 19 tracks, pressed as a 2LP. The group's own line on it, carried in the announcement, is blunt — everyone told them not to make an album, so they made a 19-track one. It is less a statement of scale than an admission that they could not narrow the thing down.

The collaborator list runs to most of the record: THEOS and Noa Mileé, together as Astels, plus Saint Raymond, Raphael Schweitzer, El Rod, Matluck, m.O.N.R.O.E., Yasmin Jane, Romeo Louisa, Echo Thrills, Saë, Poppy Baskcomb, Herr Krank, Larry Houl, Camden Cox, Chesster, MEZERG, Barney Bones, Thurman and Metrokid. The spread across electronic, house, disco and French touch is the point rather than a side effect.

Three singles set it up through the year. 'My Temptations' with Barney Bones came on 7 April 2026, built on the filter-led production and funk basslines that have been the group's signature since 'Lauren'. 'You Don't Want To Think About It' with Noa Mileé followed on 24 July 2026, and 'Take Our Time' with Astels landed that September, a track that moves between club function and something quieter.

Playing it as a band

The album got its first full airing before it was released. On 28 February 2026 the group headlined HERE at Outernet in London and played the record through, joined on stage by 14 collaborators including Poppy Baskcomb, THEOS, Noa Mileé, Camden Cox and Barney Bones — singers and musicians from the album rather than guest DJs. Defected described it as the most technically ambitious show they had attempted; the room sold out.

That is the version of the act they have been pushing since. Gray Area's profile frames the live show around spontaneity and musicianship, electronic production carrying real instruments, which is a harder sell than two people and a pair of CDJs but explains why Ibiza listings bill them specifically as a live act rather than as a DJ booking.

Where they are in late 2026

The Ibiza season was the busiest of their career. They appeared three times at Chinois for Defected — 4 June, 2 July and 23 July, all on the 23:30 to 06:30 shift — then played Ushuaïa on 30 July for a Martin Garrix event in the 17:00 to 23:00 daylight slot, UNVRS with elrow on 22 August, and Hï on 29 September for East End Dubs' Eastenderz night. Those last two matter as positioning: elrow and Eastenderz are not Defected-adjacent bookings, and taking both suggests the group is not being filed solely as a vocal-house act.

September ran through La Clairière in Paris on the 11th and The Penthouse at Five Palm Jumeirah in Dubai on the 19th. Three dates remain on the public calendar at the time of writing: The Church in Denver on 4 December 2026, Avalon in Hollywood the following night, and New Year's Eve at Depot Mayfield in Manchester for Glitterbox. The US pair are the first proper headline run behind the album; the Manchester booking is the largest room of the three.

The show, now

Two formats are in circulation and they are not interchangeable. The full production is the album show first staged at HERE at Outernet in London on 28 February 2026, where the group played 'Somehow It Flies' in its entirety before release with 14 collaborators on stage — Poppy Baskcomb, THEOS, Noa Mileé, Camden Cox and Barney Bones among them — singing and playing their own parts rather than appearing as guest selectors, wrapped in a bespoke visual production that Defected called their most technically ambitious to date. That show sold out. The club version is leaner but still billed as live rather than as a DJ set: at Chinois Ibiza across 4 June, 2 July and 23 July 2026 they worked Defected's full 23:30 to 06:30 window, and on 30 July they played Ushuaïa in a 17:00 to 23:00 daylight slot for a Martin Garrix event. Expect the Defected singles — 'Lady Love', 'Tell Me What You Want', 'My Temptations', 'Take Our Time' — as fixed points, 'Lauren (I Can't Stay Forever)' as the reliable closer, and a wider spread of uptempo house, electro and UK garage between them. Gray Area's profile describes the performances as built on the spontaneity of a band rather than a locked arrangement, which is the clearest signal of what separates a 2026 booking from the DJ dates they were taking three years ago. Bookings at elrow's UNVRS night on 22 August and East End Dubs' Eastenderz at Hï on 29 September indicate the set flexes well outside the Defected template. The December US pair at The Church in Denver and Avalon in Hollywood are headline club shows; the New Year's Eve date at Depot Mayfield in Manchester is a Glitterbox line-up, so they share the bill.
