Prospa: the Leeds pair who built a rave brand before they built an album

Harvey Blumler and Gosha Smith spent eight years making records for big rooms before releasing one to sit at home with. In 2026 both halves landed at once — a Gold-certified single, CircoLoco Records' first album, and a touring show, Prophecy, that has since become its own label.

Deep house, abandoned

Blumler and Guiorgi Smith — Gosha to everyone, including the credits — met as children in Leeds and began producing together in 2013, while both were still teenagers. The first couple of years went into deep house, a sound they later described falling out of love with, and the pair spent the back half of the decade rebuilding around older and harder material: early-nineties rave, techno, breakbeat, and the synth pop of a generation before theirs. The reference points they name are The Chemical Brothers and Daft Punk, which says something about the scale they were aiming at long before they had the records to justify it.

The turn came in October 2018 with 'Prayer'. Annie Mac made it her Hottest Record in the World on BBC Radio 1, which for a Leeds duo with almost no profile outside the city served as the entire introduction in a single evening. The release did something else worth noting: it restarted Stress Records, the house imprint that had been dormant for thirteen years, with Prospa as the act chosen to reopen it.

Their own imprint, and a long run at singles

Rather than disappear into someone else's A&R schedule, the duo set up Rave Science, which sits within Polydor and has carried most of their output since. 'WANT NEED LOVE' came through that route in 2021, arriving with a psychedelic video in June of that year, and it remains one of the two tracks that turn up most often in their documented setlists alongside 'Ecstasy (Over & Over)'. For most of the period between 'Prayer' and the album, Prospa were a singles act with a festival diary — records built to be dropped rather than sequenced.

That changed in October 2025, when 'Love Songs' opened what became a four-single run into a debut LP. The pacing was deliberate: three further singles followed over the next eight months, each one road-tested in sets for months before release.

Free Your Mind, the single and the record

The title track, made with Cloonee, came out on 27 March 2026 and became the commercial breakthrough. It reached No. 6 on the Official Singles Chart, topped the UK Dance and UK Independent singles charts, went to No. 1 on US Dance Airplay and No. 4 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, hit No. 10 in Ireland, and was certified Gold by the BPI. The track is built on a sample of Sybil's 'Oh, How I Love You', with Victor Simonelli and Sam Mack credited among the songwriters alongside Blumler, Smith and Cloonee's Dave Bissett. Billboard's Katie Bain wrote that the song 'drips with emotion about why dance music really means so much'.

The album arrived on 5 June 2026 through CircoLoco Records — the first full-length the label had ever released, which gave the record a institutional significance beyond Prospa's own catalogue. It runs eleven tracks and thirty-eight minutes, with guest turns from Cloonee, Kettama, Murda Beatz and Nafe Smallz; 'Baby', the Murda Beatz collaboration, had circulated as an unreleased ID after airings at Miami Music Week and Coachella before its May release. 'Free Your Mind' entered the Official Albums Chart dated 18 June 2026 and peaked at No. 24, reaching No. 2 on UK Dance Albums, No. 5 on UK Independent Albums and No. 15 on Billboard's Top Dance Albums.

Critics split along a familiar line for dancefloor producers making their first album. Harold Heath, writing for DJ Mag, called it a glittering, euphoric, no-let-up collection of festival anthems and credited the duo with trusting their own production instincts and their obvious appetite for dancing. Alexander Peters at When The Horn Blows was less convinced, arguing that the record does not quite manage to capture the magic of a dancefloor and that the strong individual tracks do not resolve into a consistent whole. Both readings describe the same thing: a record engineered for the room it was written for.

Prophecy: a party, a production, then a label

Prophecy began as Prospa's own event series and has become the structure around which everything else now hangs. The London edition at Magazine London on 13 March 2026 was the largest headline show of their career in the capital, selling out the 3,000-capacity Greenwich Peninsula venue ahead of doors. Creative direction and production design came from Elliot Baines of SPIRAL, who built it as a chapter-driven show rather than a DJ booth with lights on it: two sculptural hands suspended over the stage and an angel figure behind, lit almost entirely from behind and from the sides so the pair read as silhouettes. Baines described the concept as amplifying Prophecy into a fully immersive light, visual and artistic production, and the aesthetic as dark, moody and sexy, with distinct chapters so no single effect wore out. Automation physically reconfigured the rig between acts. Lighting and video were supplied by Coloursound Experiment, lasers by ER Productions, automation by Liteup, content by OMBRA World and set design by Studio FortyThree, anchored on CHAUVET Professional Color STRIKE M fixtures with twelve motorised wash-blinders in the rig.

On 14 August 2026 the party became a record label. Prophecy launched with PR001, 'Reason Why' by the 22-year-old producer Sapian — a track that had run as an unreleased ID for roughly a year, picking up more than four million TikTok views across 600-plus videos and over half a million SoundCloud plays, with support from Anyma, Cloonee and Josh Baker. The stated reasoning was straightforward: the live events needed permanent recorded output to sit alongside them.

Prophecy has since travelled. The Amsterdam Dance Event edition, programmed with Awakenings at Sugarfactory on the night of 25–26 October 2026, sold out in advance; the billing has Prospa on from 03:30 to 05:00 and then back to back with Franky Rizardo until the 07:00 close, after Tommy Phillips, Job de Jong and ISAbella with Traumer earlier in the night.

Where they stand, October 2026

The year behind them reads as a straightforward escalation. Prospa played the Yuma stage at Coachella on 17 April 2026, closed the terrace at CircoLoco's DC-10 opening party in Ibiza on 27 April, appeared in the Neon Garden at EDC Las Vegas on 16 May, played Parklife at Heaton Park on 20 June, took a two-hour evening slot at Awakenings Summer Festival in Beekse Bergen on 11 July, played Splash House in Palm Springs on 16 August and Reading Festival on 28 August, then crossed back to North America for Mission Ballroom in Denver on 25 September and Portola at Pier 80 in San Francisco on 26 September.

The diary immediately ahead is dense and mostly transatlantic. Two sold-out nights at Depot Mayfield in Manchester on 2 and 3 October 2026 come as part of Josh Baker's You&Me staging at The Warehouse Project, after which the run moves to History in Toronto on 8 and 9 October, SILO in Dallas on 10 October, three Prophecy nights at the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles from 14 to 16 October, Beach House at Belmont Park in San Diego on 18 October, the A.i. Warehouse at Union Market in Washington DC on 30 October, EDC Orlando in early November, LIV in Las Vegas on 19 November and Radius Chicago the following night, closing with CircoLoco in Mexico City on 28 November. One date is already pencilled well beyond that: Embrace LDN on 3 July 2027.

The show, now

A Prospa set in late 2026 is a DJ performance rather than a band show, and it runs to standard dance-festival lengths — roughly 60 to 90 minutes on a festival stage, with longer blocks at club events, such as the two-hour evening slot at Awakenings Summer Festival on 11 July 2026 and the 03:30 to 07:00 stretch at their sold-out Amsterdam Dance Event date, where the final ninety minutes is a back-to-back with Franky Rizardo. The material is drawn mostly from 'Free Your Mind' and the singles around it: the documented Portola set on 26 September 2026 ran through 'Good Girl', 'Masterplan', the title track and 'Dreams', while 'WANT NEED LOVE' and 'Ecstasy (Over & Over)' remain the most frequently logged older tracks. The full staging appears under the Prophecy banner, as at the 3,000-capacity Magazine London show on 13 March 2026, which sold out before doors: Elliot Baines of SPIRAL designed it as a chaptered sequence with two sculptural hands hung above the stage and an angel behind, the pair kept in backlight and silhouette rather than conventional key light, with automation reshaping the rig between acts, lasers from ER Productions and Color STRIKE M blinders as the anchor fixture. Support is typically a programmed club bill rather than a touring opener — Prospa appear alongside Josh Baker's You&Me roster at the Manchester dates on 2 and 3 October 2026. Reviewers' verdicts on the record have divided, but the agreed point, including from the album's sceptics, is that the tracks are built for exactly this setting.
