Na legalu? at 25: Peja and DJ Decks play the Poznań record that moved Polish rap
Slums Attack spent nine years split apart and two years making up for it. In late 2026 the Poznań pair are midway through an eleven-date Polish tour that performs their 2001 breakthrough end to end, with a new album, SLUG, less than a year old.
Jeżyce, a judo mat and a tape deck
Ryszard Waldemar Andrzejewski was born in Poznań on 17 September 1976 and grew up in Jeżyce, a district whose blocks and courtyards became the setting for almost everything he later wrote. His mother died when he was twelve; his father drank, and social services were in and out of the household, material he put directly into the track Doskonały Przykład rather than leaving it implied. The 1988 Seoul Olympics sent him to the Olimpia Poznań judo club, where he trained until 1995 and won the Polish youth title twice, in 1991 and 1992. The Polish Judo Association formally acknowledged him for services to the sport in 2005, by which point he had been rapping for over a decade.
Slums Attack started in 1993, founded by Andrzejewski — by then using the name Peja — with Marcin "Iceman" Maćkowiak. Demo cassettes circulated between 1993 and 1995 before a self-titled debut album arrived in 1996 on PH Kopalnia, followed by Zwykła codzienność in 1997. Maćkowiak left in 1998 and Dariusz "DJ Decks" Działek took the other half of the group, turning it into a rapper-and-producer pairing rather than two MCs. Całkiem nowe oblicze came out on Camey Studio in 1999 and I nie zmienia się nic in 2000, both of them local successes that stayed local.
The record that changed the arithmetic
Na legalu? was released on 15 December 2001 by T1-Teraz and was the first record billed as Peja/Slums Attack. It reached number ten on the Polish OLiS chart, went gold and then platinum, and has been credited with sales of around 100,000 copies — figures that in 2001 were not what Polish rap albums did. Głucha noc, Jest jedna rzecz and Mój rap, moja rzeczywistość became the tracks the group is still asked for, and guests on the album included Hans Solo, Gandi Ganda and Iceman. In 2002 it took the Fryderyk, the Polish recording industry's award, for hip-hop album of the year. The same year the group's work appeared on the soundtrack to Blokersi, the documentary that introduced much of the country to the estates Peja had been describing.
What followed was a long commercial run on the strength of that record. Najlepszą obroną jest atak arrived on Fonografika in 2005; Szacunek ludzi ulicy in 2006 went gold on 15,000 copies, as did the compilation Fturując the same year, which charted at fourteen. Reedukacja in 2011 reached platinum within five days on 30,000 copies. CNO2 followed in 2012 and the anniversary project 20/20 Evergreen reached number two in 2013. Remisja, released in 2017 on Peja's own RPS Enterteyment, went to the top of OLiS. His records away from the group did similar numbers: Styl życia G'N.O.J.A in 2008, Na serio in 2009, Książę aka. Slumilioner in 2014 and DDA with DJ Zel in 2016 all certified gold.
Nine years apart, two years of repair
DJ Decks left in 2015 and the group stopped functioning in 2016. Peja kept working under his own name through 25 godzin in 2018 and a run of further albums, but the Slums Attack billing effectively went dormant. The repair became public in June 2024 with the announcement of a joint album, and depeche_mood was released on 6 December 2024 — a reconciliation that Polish rap press had largely stopped expecting. A Progresja show in Warsaw on 27 September 2025 was advertised as the band's return after a twelve-year gap, with a VIP tier that bundled a meet-and-greet and a CD or shirt.
The follow-up was timed to the anniversary of the comeback. Details of SLUG were published on 2 November 2025, pre-orders opened on 6 November, and the album came out on 6 December 2025, exactly a year after depeche_mood. It runs to ten tracks, all produced by Decks, with guest verses from Gandi Ganda on City Break 2, Wojtas of WYP3 on Męski świat, VBS on Najważniejsze and Pih on Czas nie leczy ran. DJ Eprom mixed and mastered it, and it was issued on CD, vinyl and cassette simultaneously rather than staggering the physical formats. Reaction on Polish hip-hop forums was split, with the production approach the main point of argument.
Where they stand in November 2026
The anniversary of Na legalu? has shaped the whole of the group's 2026. The first date announced, on 17 March, was a one-off for Poznań: 21 November at the Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie fairgrounds, a 7pm start, with tickets going on general sale at midday on 19 March through Winiary Bookings, Going, Empik Bilety, Eventim, eBilet and Ticketmaster, and a dedicated site at 25latnalegalu.pl. By 4 August the one-off had become a national run of eleven cities.
The tour opened at Progresja in Warsaw on 30 October 2026, doors at seven and music at eight, with tickets at 119 złoty. From there it goes to Kwadrat in Kraków on 13 November, CK A2 in Wrocław on 14 November, the Poznań fairgrounds on 21 November, Dom Kultury in Lublin on 28 November, Lizard King in Toruń on 29 November, B90 in Gdańsk on 3 December, Scenografia in Łódź on 11 December, Kosmos in Szczecin on 12 December, Zmiana Klimatu in Białystok on 18 December and Pod Palmą in Rzeszów on 19 December. Winiary Bookings, which promotes the run, has the Kraków date marked sold out. With Warsaw played, ten dates remain on sale. Further ahead, Peja/Slums Attack is on a festival bill at Przytkowice on 12 June 2027 alongside Tede and Słoń.
What the night is built around
The format is fixed across all eleven shows and the promoters have been explicit about it: Na legalu? performed in full, in order, then a second stretch drawn from the rest of a catalogue that now covers thirteen studio albums across three decades. That makes the night a document of a specific 2001 record first and a career retrospective second — unusual for Peja, whose sets have historically been assembled from the hits of whichever era the audience shouts loudest for.
The Poznań date is the one being treated differently. Both the announcement and subsequent coverage flag guest appearances there, with the suggestion that some tracks could be heard with the people who originally recorded them — which, for an album featuring Iceman, Hans Solo and Gandi Ganda, is a reasonable thing to turn up for. The live line-up is Peja on vocals with Decks on production duties, joined by hypeman Piotr "Gandzior" Miężał. Age policy on the tour is strict by Polish club standards: anyone from thirteen upwards needs written parental consent, and under-thirteens must be accompanied by a guardian.
The show, now
The current show is the 25 lat Na Legalu? tour, running from 30 October to 19 December 2026 across eleven Polish cities, promoted by Winiary Bookings. Doors are at 7pm with the set starting at 8pm, and the structure is the same everywhere: the 2001 album Na legalu? played in full, including Głucha noc, Jest jedna rzecz and Mój rap, moja rzeczywistość, then a second block of material from the rest of the group's catalogue. Staging is club-scale rather than production-heavy — Peja on the mic, DJ Decks behind the decks, hypeman Gandzior alongside — and the rooms are mostly 1,000-to-2,000-capacity venues such as Progresja in Warsaw, Kwadrat in Kraków and B90 in Gdańsk, with the 21 November Poznań date moved up to the Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie fairgrounds and promised guest appearances. No support act has been billed on any date. Warsaw tickets were 119 złoty; Kraków is listed as sold out, and ten dates remain on sale.
