Tango Eterno: a Paris-built Argentine ensemble with one night left in the diary

Tango Eterno is a 90-minute Argentine tango show created in 2025 around the bandoneonist Pablo Gignoli and the singer Sebastián Rossi. After one-nighters in Paris and a four-date run through Belgium and northern France in December 2025, it has exactly one date on sale: Stadsschouwburg Antwerpen, 24 October 2026.

A production, not a band

Tango Eterno is best understood as an assembled show rather than a group with a back catalogue. The name is held as a trademark dated 2024 to 2026, the production is credited to the French company ONE SAS, and the show itself was put together in 2025 from Argentine musicians and dancers who, for the most part, now work out of France. There is no album under the Tango Eterno name and no discography to trace.

What it sells is a 90-minute evening, played entirely live, with no spoken dialogue and the songs delivered in Spanish. The producers describe the arc as a journey through love, loss, longing and destiny, which is sleeve-note language, but the structural claim underneath it is checkable: music, voice and dance alternate across a single unbroken span rather than being split into numbers announced from the stage.

The casting is modular, and the billing proves it. The line-up advertised for the Paris date in February 2025 shares only one performer with the line-up advertised for Antwerp in October 2026. The core that has held is Gignoli on bandoneon, Berivan Sart on piano and Rossi on voice, with one dance couple attached.

Gignoli: Villa María to Fernández Fierro to a French orchestra

The musical centre of the show is Pablo Gignoli, born in Villa María, Córdoba, in 1978, the son of a bandoneón-playing father and raised by an adoptive father who was a baker. He studied piano early, then guitar with Walter Malosetti and bandoneón with Néstor Marconi. He joined Orquesta Típica Fernández Fierro in 2005 and played with it until 2012, the stretch in which that orchestra became the loudest argument in Buenos Aires for tango as a rock-adjacent live proposition rather than a heritage act.

He also founded his own quartet, Derrotas Cadenas, and formed the duo Volco & Gignoli with the pianist Sebastián Volco. In 2012 he moved to Paris with his French wife and daughter, and built TAXXI Tango XXI there — a larger modern tango orchestra whose profile Página/12 characterised as vanguardist. Its first album, Sweet Saint Denis, came in 2017; the second, Alimentation Générale, was built around a conceit of food and released during the pandemic. In parallel he worked as an arranger with the Plaza Francia Orchestra and played more than thirty concerts with Benjamin Biolay.

Gignoli has been unusually blunt about not being a purist. Asked about his formation, he has said he listened to more Charly García than Troilo, and volunteered a liking for Spinetta. His own album, Después de la tormenta, collects seven original compositions that lean on rock, electronica, song form and jazz. He continues to play in smaller formations too, including the Gignoli Tango Trio with Sart and Bastien Lacoste, and has performed alongside the singer Chino Laborde.

The voices, the piano and the dance couple

Sebastián Rossi, from Patagonia, came to tango singing through acting: he trained in dramatic art in Buenos Aires and at the experimental centre attached to the Teatro Colón, and the French travel magazine Le Bon Air described him capsizing a room with the presence of a cheerful dandy and the voice of a malevo. He is the performer most consistently billed across the show's dates. The second voice is Leandro Rouco, a singer, guitarist and producer trained at the Manuel de Falla conservatory.

Berivan Sart holds the piano chair, having come through Gignoli's own orbit in the TAXXI Combo and the Gignoli Tango Trio. The strings — violin and double bass in the Antwerp billing — are not named in the production's own material.

The dance is carried by one couple. Kira Makarova began in Russia with modern jazz and hip-hop before moving to tango, and founded the Tango Young Paris project in 2017; WOMEX noted a strong stage presence that blends the elegance of salon tango with the expressiveness of stage tango, and her teaching is organised around alignment, posture and balance on one side and grounding, compensation and presence on the other. Her partner, Sebastián Motter, was runner-up at the 2019 Carlos Gardel festival in Rosario and has taught across several countries; his own stated interest is movement quality, structural clarity and improvisation rather than set choreography.

The dates so far

The earliest traceable Tango Eterno date is a seated concert at Le Pan Piper in the 11th arrondissement of Paris on Sunday 2 February 2025, doors at 19:00 for a 19:30 start, promoted by Opus 220, with children under five not admitted. The billing then was markedly different: the duo Sin Vuelta — Émile Guion on piano and Maxime Guion on bandoneón — with Rossi singing and Makarova dancing alongside Vito Muñoz.

By the end of the year the show had taken the form it still advertises. A four-date run through the Low Countries and northern France was listed for December 2025: Espace Lumen in Ixelles, Brussels on the 11th, La Comédie d'Amiens on the 12th, ARCA theatre in Ghent on the 13th and De Nieuwe Vrede in Antwerp on the 14th, with Gignoli, Sart and Rossi joined by Motter and Makarova. Those ticket pages have since been withdrawn by the organiser and now return only a notice that the event is over, which is the usual housekeeping of a self-ticketed tour rather than evidence of cancellation.

That run is what the current marketing means when it refers to success in Paris and Brussels. It is also the whole of the public record: four one-night stands and a club date, none of them a run.

Where it stands in October 2026

One date is on sale. Tango Eterno plays Stadsschouwburg Antwerpen on Saturday 24 October 2026 at 20:00, and the production's own site lists nothing after it beyond a line about further dates to be announced. That single booking is the significant development, because it is a jump in room size: from a Paris club and a hall in Ixelles to the Antwerp city theatre, with the venue's own copy promising bandoneón, piano and strings, song and dance, and a programme running from Piazzolla through traditional and contemporary repertoire.

The show's paper trail has not grown with the venues. The promotional material still rests on three borrowed lines — Página/12 on Gignoli's standing as a former Fernández Fierro bandoneonist now fronting TAXXI Tango XXI, WOMEX on Makarova's stage presence, Le Bon Air on Rossi — and all three predate Tango Eterno itself. No published review of an actual Tango Eterno performance was traceable, and no audience notices either, which is what tends to happen when a production plays single nights in rooms that do not carry a critic.

For a prospective ticket-buyer the honest summary is that the personnel are verifiable and experienced while the show as a show is not yet independently assessed. Gignoli's record with Fernández Fierro and TAXXI Tango XXI, Motter's Rosario placing and Makarova's Paris project are all documented; the 90-minute evening built from them, as of now, is not.

The show, now

The current show runs 90 minutes, played entirely live with no spoken links and the songs kept in Spanish, and the producers shape it as one continuous arc that alternates quiet songs, lighter rhythmic passages and heavier climaxes rather than a sequence of announced numbers. The repertoire leans on Piazzolla — Oblivion inside the set, Libertango as the finale — with Carlos Gardel for the older layer and original pieces by members of the ensemble for the newer one. Staging is the ensemble itself: bandoneón, piano, violin and double bass on stage throughout, two singers trading the vocal numbers, and a single dance couple, Sebastián Motter and Kira Makarova, carrying the choreographed sections, with Makarova's background in modern jazz and hip-hop visible in the stage-tango vocabulary rather than any salon restraint. No support act is billed on any date so far, and the Antwerp performance on 24 October 2026 starts at 20:00. What recent reviews and fans say cannot honestly be reported: the publicity recycles three press lines about individual performers from Página/12, WOMEX and Le Bon Air, all written before Tango Eterno existed, and no notice of an actual performance of the show has been published.
