Yung Ouzo

Three cities, none of them home

Yung Ouzo comes from Mersin, on Turkey's Mediterranean coast. His adult life has been split between there, Vienna and Istanbul, and by the time of an interview published in the first half of 2026 he had settled in Istanbul for the previous two or three years while still keeping a foot in Austria. The geography is not incidental; it is the material. Asked in May 2026 about the three cities, he said he had never experienced feeling completely at home in any of them.

That restlessness shows up in what he listens to. He has named El Ceyhuni, Mor ve Ötesi, Lin Pesto and Ahiyan among the people who matter to him, and describes a diet that runs well outside rap: shoegaze, alternative rock, ambient, lo-fi, house and dub. He has also been unusually blunt about his own scene, saying he draws little from Turkish music because, in his view, it is not free or original enough — an odd position for someone whose records sit squarely inside Turkish trap, and one he seems comfortable holding.

Guest verses first, a catalogue second

For several years the most-played Yung Ouzo recordings were not Yung Ouzo records. His streaming profile is still led by tracks where he is the visitor — "2T1BB", credited to another artist with him featured, alongside "Matmazel", "Glock 2.0", "Tarif" and "Her Şey Yolunda". That is the ordinary route into Turkish rap's top tier: a rapper with a recognisable voice gets called in, the hook travels, and the audience arrives before the album does.

His own run built underneath that. The 2023 batch — "ptsd", "Mevzular", "Cinderella" and "Viyana Freestyle", the last of them named after the Turkish word for Vienna — established the register he still works in: short tracks, melodic delivery, writing that circles family and self-doubt rather than status. He also appears on the compilation album "ALLIANCE" with "olm was rap mep", which remains one of the most-played things with his name on it.

valiz: seven tracks, thirteen minutes

The record that changed his standing arrived on 24 April 2026. "valiz" — Turkish for suitcase — runs seven songs and thirteen minutes, and came out through ULUDAG boys, the imprint his releases carry rather than a major label. Nothing on it outstays its welcome; the whole thing is shorter than a single side of most rap albums.

He has described the brevity as deliberate and the content as more exposed than anything before it, saying he put his weaker sides and his family dynamics between the lines. Several producers worked on it, which usually pulls a short record apart. His account of why it holds is unfussy: the vocals, the content and the writing style were the through-line, and he had complete freedom over the decisions. On the question of who it was for, he has said he makes music for himself first, on the grounds that nobody pleases everyone at once.

"Yanılmışım" has become the most-played track from it. "7/20", made with Tanerman, got the video treatment, and a remix of "Yanılmışım" pushed into Afro house — the first public sign of the dance-music interest he talks about in interviews.

A single every few weeks

Since "valiz" the release schedule has been relentless rather than strategic. "UNUTTURAN", "money talks", "BREAKDANCE", the "Yanılmışım" Afro house remix and "HARBiLER iÇiN" all landed across 2026, and the most recent release is "G6 / SYBAU", a two-track single issued on 7 August 2026. None of them is long. The working method looks closer to a producer's release cadence than an album artist's campaign.

He has trailed two further EPs, and they point in opposite directions: one built on house and garage, the other in the register of American underground rap. Neither has a confirmed date. Taken with the Afro house remix, it reads as a rapper deciding whether to stay in Turkish trap or use it as a base camp.

Where he sits now is easiest to read from the company he keeps on streaming services, which file him next to Motive, UZI, Reckol, Mavi, Şam, Jefe, EGE!, D3 and 2run — the working middle and upper middle of Turkish rap, not the stadium tier above it.

The rooms he plays

Yung Ouzo's touring is a circuit rather than a tour: pubs, performance halls and the Hayal Kahvesi chain, a different provincial city most nights, and repeat visits to the same venues within months. He played 6:45 KK in Ankara on 14 May 2026 and was booked back into the same room on 30 September. The spring run took in Social Hall in Mersin on 8 May, Holly Stone in Bursa on 12 May and SPR Pub in Eskişehir on 13 May, then a headline night at Blind — a basement club on Şehbender Sokak in Beyoğlu — on 24 June, doors at half nine.

The autumn leg opened at SPR Pub in Eskişehir on 23 September 2026 and runs through to Hayal Kahvesi in Balıkesir on 21 November, with sixteen dates listed across Turkey and no shows outside it. Three of them have been pulled: Palm Garden in Mersin on 2 October, Batman on 9 October and Uşak on 23 October. Cancelling a home-town date is the kind of detail that tells you this is a booking operation running hot, not a machine.

Two dates handled by the promoter Hoze Project — The Keep in Çanakkale on 20 October and Hayal Kahvesi Bandırma on 21 October — go on at 21:45 with tickets from 599 lira, which is a fair marker of the scale: small rooms, late starts, standing crowds.
